Atletico Madrid have agreed to sign Zaragoza captain Gabriel Fernandez Arenas, according to AS.
The 28-year-old midfielder has a one year left on his contract with Zaragoza and after rejecting a new contract offer it became clear that he will leave La Romareda this summer.
Gabi has reportedly already agreed a four-year contract with Atletico Madrid, with Zaragoza set to earn around €3 million.
The midfielder will thus return to the club where he started his career, having left Vicente Calderon in 2007 to join Zaragoza.
The Spaniard managed to kick-start his career at La Romareda, becoming one of the most important players in the squad, but he is now ready for a new challenge.
Coming to Atletico on the back of an impressive season, during which he scored 10 league goals, Gabi will fancy his chances of winning a starting place at Vicente Calderon.
