According to Marca, Mateo Kovacic is still very invested in the idea of leaving Real Madrid this summer. The 24-year-old has been with the Spanish giants since 2015 when he made the switch over from Inter Milan, but now, he believes that he needs first team football – and he isn’t going to get that at the Bernabeu.
The Croatian met with the new Real manager to confirm that he wanted to leave the club, and given his stature in the game, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a parade of high-profile European clubs attempting to snap him up over the course of the next few months.
Lopetegui supposedly wanted to try and convince him to stay, but given the kind of teams that are said to be interested in him, that was never going to happen when you consider the circumstances. Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City and Juventus are all rumoured to be taking a look at him.
