Sepp Blatter simply has to go

The row over Sepp Blatter’s comments about racism has now reached fever pitch.

Everybody and their dog has commented on his comments. It shows the strength of feeling against his comments and the issue in general that so many people have reacted in a negative way.

Ridiculous

The fact that he stated that players should just shake hands and forget about racist comments is old-fashioned in itself. In fact its ridiculous. Racism is simply unacceptable in football, just like modern society.

To think that a handshake is going to make a difference is stupid and a misconceived idea. People are hurt and angered by racist comments and I know most players wouldn’t want to shake the hand of somebody that had just abused them.

The recent cases of John Terry and Luis Suarez in the Premier League proves that things can’t just be solved by a handshake. There is a deeper routed problem. Racism does still exist in the game but we have came along way in the last 20 years.

I believe the English FA have tried their best to stamp it out of the English game but I think there will always be racism, no matter what you do or say, unfortunately. It’s less of a problem now than in the past but for Blatter to say there is no racism in football is just wrong.

FIFA do a lot to stamp out racism as well as the FA and they have also done a decent job as an organisation over getting rid of racism. However their President Sepp Blatter seems to put his foot in his mouth whenever he opens it.

Shambles

This is just another poorly judged comment from one of the games most controversial characters. He has been part of FIFA for a long time but in recent years the organisation has been a shambles. The scandals of the last few years have exposed a number of FIFA delegates as being corrupt.

Blatter has promised to clean up the organisation. I don’t know how he expects to clean up FIFA when members have actually accused him himself of corruption. I believe in the saying there is no smoke without fire. And Blatter seems to have been surrounded by smoke for the last few years.

Incompetent

I think it’s about time that Sepp Blatter left his position at the head of FIFA. His latest comments seem to have offended everybody. As a president of FIFA he should be far more aware of the issues that go on in the world.

FIFA had to release a separate statement after Blatter’s comments defending his words by saying he has campaigned against racism for many years. Well he should have better understanding of the issue. A president of FIFA should have respect of the people.

Blatter has lost any respect that people once had for him with a series of gaffes and ill-advised statements. It seems that it is time for change at the top of the FIFA family.

Reform

Blatter has talked about reform and rooting out corruption. However there can’t be true reform while he is still in power at FIFA. He is still tarnished by allegations that he himself is corrupt. Whether those allegations are true or not people will find him hard to trust.

I don’t believe Blatter will resign because he is too stubborn and set in his ways. He still believes that people trust him and he can change things at FIFA.

However Mr Blatter you are wrong. Do us all a favour and let somebody else take control of FIFA,  before our world governing body gets turned into more of a joke than it already is.

Should Sepp Blatter leave his post of President of FIFA?

The decision to host the 2022 World Cup in Qatar coincided with a school assignment in which I had to write a satire… naturally I wrote about the general incompetency of FIFA. Blatter starred in it of course. His comments on racism only confirm his failure as a figurehead for football.

Why would I shake some guy’s hand after he calls me rascist slurs? I wouldn’t. I’d rip his head off. . . jk

Exactly Brad. You wouldn’t want to shake his hand. I know I wouldn’t want to shake somebodies hand that abused me.

Excellent article David! To John, bad grammar irritates me but it is not everyone’s forté so I generally refrain from commenting. However when someone has taken the time to criticise someone else’s grammar when the piece was grammatically correct, this irritates me enough to put fingers to my keyboard. David used the correct grammar when he used the phrase “There can’t be true reform…”. The other options would have been “Their” meaning ‘belonging to them’ or “They’re” which is a contraction of the words ‘They are’ neither of which would have made any sense at all. Rant over!

it’s not even ridiculous, it’s insulting and appalling. Anyone can shake his enemies hands in front of a crowd and pretend that nothing happened. Blatter is the same as Bernie Ecclestone of Formula One, making stupid decisions and stubborn to listen to other people’s ideas. Racism is a criminal act and those people caught should be treated as such and be placed severe punishment

I have to say I agree with all the points here, but if you are going to post an article online in a venue countless people from all across the world will read, a grammar check should be in order. Not to be the grammar police but…. for example “there” can’t be true reform
