Juventus’ Antonio Conte hailed Carlos Tevez and Paul Pogba as they powered his side to a 1-0 win over Sampdoria on Serie A’s opening day.
The head coach has been delighted with his transfer-window acquisitions but particularly Tevez, who signed from Manchester City.
Tevez scored the game’s only goal into an empty net on 58 minutes after Pogba’s squared pass took the goalkeeper out of the equation.
“Tevez is working very hard, not just on the field but also off it and he’s a wonderful person,” Conte said.
“He is improving, as are Fernando Llorente and Angelo Ogbonna, who will take time to settle into a squad that already did so well for two years.”
Pogba, who was snapped up on a free transfer from Manchester United at the start of last season, has the ability to join the top echelon of players, according to Conte.
“We started working on him a year ago and his progress has been incredible,” Conte said.
“I saw his interviews in which he said he wanted to become the best in the world and I am happy with that, because in my view he can be the best.”
After netting his second goal in as many games, Tevez described the night as ‘perfect’ and said he was gradually settling in at the club.
“It was the perfect night, as we won in a difficult arena and are very happy with the performance,” Tevez said.
“It is not easy to get to know my teammates straight away but I tried to do all I could for the team.”
