Celtic striker Scott McDonald could be set for a spell in the Premier League on a one-year loan to Wigan, the Australian international’s agent announced on Saturday.

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez has reportedly been impressed by the Hoops’ forward and is keen for the move to go ahead before the transfer window closes at the start of next week.

The move is being put together by agent Willie McKay, who believes Premier League experience could send the valuation of the Australian international soaring.

McKay told the Daily Record on Saturday: “Negotiations are at an early stage.

“Roberto is a big admirer of Scott and believes he would score a lot of goals in the Premier League.

“A loan might not sound like the ideal situation but if Scott goes down to England and makes his mark, his value will shoot through the roof.”
