Crisis-hit Premier League club Portsmouth on Friday named the Football Association’s head of football integrity David Lampitt as their new chief executive.

Lampitt takes over from Peter Storrie, who stepped down on March 12.

Portsmouth take on Tottenham in an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Sunday, but could be relegated from the Premier League before they take to the pitch if results go against them this weekend.

Avram Grant’s side are 14 points from safety with five games to play, having been deducted nine points on March 17 for going into administration.

Lampitt told Pompey’s official website, www.portsmouthfc.co.uk: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to take up this new challenge with Portsmouth.

“The club has been through some tough times this season and I intend to bring some stability and transparency to operations.”
