Reigning French champions Olympique Marseille have confirmed that Senegalese striker Mamadou Niang has joined Turkish giants Fenerbahce on a four year contract. The fee for Niang, last season’s Ligue 1 top scorer with 18 goals, is estimated to be somewhere around the 8 million euro mark.
Marseille have had a nightmare start to their title defence, having lost both of their opening Ligue 1 games to Caen and Valenciennes. OM coach Didier Deschamps had made it clear that he would have liked Niang to stay at the club.
Niang, a Le Havre youth product, played for Troyes, Metz and Strasbourg before joining Marseille in 2005.
