There are some tantalising fixtures in midweek as European football returns with the quarter-finals of the Champions League and Europa League. We’ve had a look through the games and picked out a five-fold that could bring a great return.
Tuesday 11th April
19:45 CET Borussia Dortmund v Monaco
This may not be the biggest tie of the round but it may just be the most intriguing, and the most exciting with two attacking teams going head-to-head. The visitors have been prolific all season long both domestically and in Europe and will fancy their chances of nicking an away goal. However, Thomas Tuchel’s side is packed with firepower and they will need to take something to Monaco if they are to progress, meaning goals seem certain.
Tip: both teams to score @4/0
19:45 CET Juventus v Barcelona
Barcelona scraped into the last eight after pulling off the greatest comeback in the competition’s history last time out against PSG. However, they will face a far sterner test against a Juve side that has not lost at home in the Champions League in their last 21 games and have conceded just twice in the competition so far. Juve will know they need to take a result to Camp Nou and will fancy their chances of beating a Barca side that lost at Malaga at the weekend.
Tip: home win @13/8
Wednesday 12th April
19: 45 CET Atletico v Leicester
Atletico Madrid are big favourites to beat a Leicester side that shocked many by seeing off Sevilla in the round of 16. Diego Simeone’s men possess a fierce some record in this competition having reached the final in two of the last three seasons and will be expected to book their spot in the last four. While Leicester have improved in recent weeks, the trip to the Calderon will prove a huge test and it’s hard to look past a home win.
Tip: home win @3/10
Thursday 13th April
20:05 CET Celta v Genk
Celta take on Genk hoping to extend their record of never having lost to Belgian opposition. Only Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez have outscored Celta striker Iago Aspas in La Liga this season and they should have the firepower to brush aside Albert Stuivenberg’s men.
Tip: home win @8/15
20:05 CET Lyon v Besiktas
Lyon are enjoying a fine season in Ligue 1, currently fourth in the standings, and still eyeing Europa League glory. The hosts have been prolific in the competition so far, scoring an average of four goals a game, and Besiktas look to have their work cut out.
Tip: home win @8/15
