11th August: Sunday’s Football Accumulator – 8/1

With the Premier League making its return this weekend, we are expecting a lively Sunday from across the footballing globe. On that note, we here at Soccer News have found a handful of helpful tips that can boost your weekend acca:

Sunday 11th August

BST 15:00 St Mirren vs Aberdeen

While a 2-0 loss away at Rijeka may put a dent in Aberdeen’s Europa League ambitions, Derek McInnes’ men fought back to secure three points against Hearts in their Premiership opener last weekend. Simply looking to try and close the gap on Rangers and Celtic this season, they have lost just one of their last 11 appearances and the mood in their camp should still be on a high. Looking to bounce back after their defeat in Croatia earlier in the week, Sunday’s traveling fans will be looking for the red-hot Sam Cosgrove to carry on his stellar start to the new season. Bagging a brace and spearheading Aberdeen’s dramatic comeback against Hearts in their Premiership opener, the 22-year-old was attracting interest from across Britain over the summer and has now bagged eight goals in his last six matches across all competitions. With Cosgrove also now bagging four goals in just his last three matchups against St. Mirren, including bagging a brace in his last appearance at the Simple Digital Arena, Aberdeen’s leading man should be confident of extending that tally on Sunday. With the hosts putting in another sluggish display in their opening day 1-0 loss against Hibernian last weekend, Jim Goodwin have managed to win just one of their last nine matches within 90 minutes and have also failed to find the net in their last three consecutive outings.

Tip: Sam Cosgrove to score anytime @ 7/5

16:30 Manchester United vs Chelsea

Starting with Sunday’s hosts, while Manchester United may have endured a worrying end to the season that saw them once again fail to secure Champions League football for Old Trafford, the Red Devils have enjoyed a morale-boosting run during pre-season. Landing a penalties victory over Inter Milan in Wales and making it three wins out of three in the International Champions Cup, Ole Gunnar Solskaer’s side won all six of their pre-season appearances and the record-breaking acquisition of Harry Maguire will have United dreaming of landing a top-four return this campaign. Although first choice striking option Marcus Rashford has enjoyed a bright run over the summer and will leading the line on Sunday, fans around Old Trafford will be more than aware of their sides’ continued defensive issues last season. Failing to win any of their final five games last year, including a 2-0 defeat at home to an already relegated Cardiff in their appearance of the 2018/2019 campaign, United conceded 54 goals last season and recorded just a pair of clean sheets at Old Trafford all year. As for Chelsea, with Frank Lampard securing a dream role as the new man in charge at Stamford Bridge, the Blues have endured an incredibly high-scoring summer. Coming off the back of a 2-2 draw against German side Borussia Mönchengladbach last weekend, the Blues are unbeaten in their final four pre-season appearances, including a 2-1 win over Barcelona last month. However, although the Londoners have scored 13 goals on their unbeaten run, there are some glaring defensive issues. Chelsea have shipped eight goals in their last three appearances, including conceding a trio of goals against both Reading and RB Salzburg.

Tip: Both teams to score @ 3/4

23:00 Philadelphia Union vs Houston Dynamo

Although a 4-0 hammering away at Montreal may have worried any around Pennsylvania last month, Philadelphia bounced back in empathic fashion last weekend. Putting in a season-best display and picking up a very impressive 5-1 win away at title outsiders DC United, Head Coach Jim Curtin now sees his side hold a three-point buffer at the top of the Eastern Conference and their continued form on home soil has played a huge part in their title charge. Securing a 2-0 win over Chicago in their last appearance at the Talen Energy Stadium, one man to watch this weekend will be the red-hot Marco Fabián. Once again bagging a brace in Washington last time out, the 30-year-old has been heavily praised by Curtin this week and has now scored four goals in his last five MLS appearances. Also now finding the net in back-to-back matches on home soil, Fabián should be looking to extend on his recent tally against a Houston side in the midst of a real struggle. Putting in another lackluster display in their 1-0 loss against Chicago last weekend, the Dynamo’s have lost five of their last six MLS matchups and have begun freefalling out of the play-off picture in the Western Conference. Also on a run of form that has seen them lose eight of their last nine matches on the road, including a 5-0 hammering away at Atlanta last month, we’re backing Fabián to extend his recent goalscoring tally on Sunday night.

Tip: Marco Fabián to score anytime @ 5/4
