12th December: Saturday’s Football Accumulator – 8/1

With another action-packed weekend of football on the cards, we have a stacked Saturday afternoon from across Europe that is worth keeping an eye out for. So, for anyone looking to stick on a weekend acca, we have searched far and wide to find you a handful of helpful tips that are worth taking note of.

Saturday 12th December

BST 14:30 RB Leipzig vs Werder Bremen

Starting with Saturday’s hosts, while they might have seen Manchester United mount a late comeback out in Germany earlier in the week, RB Leipzig managed to hang onto their deserved victory at the Red Bull Arena. Eventually leaving with a 3-2 win and managing to book their spot in the knockout stage of this year’s Champions League at United’s expense, the mood in their camp should be at a high. While Julian Nagelsmann’s men might have seen last year’s top scorer Timo Werner make the move to Chelsea over the summer, they have managed to soldier on and still sit within striking distance of climbing to the top of the table. Although they might have thrown away the lead late on against defending champions Bayern Munich in what was a thrilling 3-3 draw last weekend, Leipzig are enjoying a four-match unbeaten run across all formats, winning three of those appearances. Really starting to shine in the final third, Nagelsmann has also seen his side enjoy an extended purple patch on home soil. Including that victory against Manchester United in midweek, Leipzig have won each of their last eight straight contests at the Red Bull Arena and will be confident of extending on that tally this weekend. On the flip side, while Leipzig might find the mood in their camp at a high, Werder Bremen have continued to show a string of issues. Freefalling down the Bundesliga table, Saturday’s guests have been hit with back-to-back defeats against Stuttgart and Wolfsburg. Failing to win any of their last seven top-flight contests on the bounce, it should also be noted that were hit with a 4-0 drumming when they last faced off against Leipzig.

Tip: RB Leipzig win by 2+ goals @ 5/6

15:00  Wigan Athletic vs Accrington Stanley

Last seen earlier in the week coming from behind and snatching a late victory against Manchester United’s U21’s in the EFL Trophy, Accrington Stanley have only continued to shock many across League One this season. While John Coleman’s men might have only secured a maiden campaign in England’s third-tier last season, the Reds have skyrocketed their way up the table and should find the mood in their camp at a red-hot high. Suddenly opening this weekend’s fixtures sat just one-point adrift of breaking into the play-off positions, Stanley now have stunning back-to-back promotions at the top of their agenda. Clearly one of League One’s surprise packages so far this season, Saturday’s guests find themselves enjoying an eight-match unbeaten run across all formats, a run that stems back to November 7th. Last seen in England’s third-tier picking up a deserved 2-1 win against MK Dons on home soil, it should also be noted that Coleman’s men have not lost a League One fixture since the middle of October. Bagging at least a pair of strikes in each of their last three appearances on the spin, it should also be noted that the Reds have lost just one of their last five matchups away from the Wham Stadium. On the flip side, while Wigan might have managed to somehow complete the ultimate smash and grab away at Sunderland last weekend, despite being hugely outplayed, the Latics still find themselves in the midst of a real crisis. Seen as a leading pick to suffer back-to-back relegations after a string of off-field issues, Saturday’s hosts are sat rock-bottom of the League One table and with just a single win in their last 11 straight third-tier contests.

Tip: Accrington Stanley win @ 6/5

15:00 Southend United vs Scunthorpe

Starting with Saturday’s guests, while on paper it might show that Scunthorpe suffered a 1-0 defeat against play-off hopefuls Colchester last time out, that doesn’t quite tell the whole story. Missing a string of chances and dominating large spells of proceedings, Head Coach Neil Cox should at least take some solace after his side’s rather drastic improvements over the past month. Despite opening the 2020/2021 campaign in nothing short of woeful fashion and many tipping them as a leading contender to lose their Football League status this season, Scunthorpe have skyrocketed their way out of the drop zone and they will be seeing their trip to Essex this weekend as a golden opportunity. Opening December with back-to-back wins against Leyton Orient and a 5-2 romp against Harrogate, the Iron have now lost just a pair of their last seven League Two contests on the bounce. There is no doubt that Cox will be most impressed by his side’s remarkable run of form while away from Glanford Park. Including that drumming away at Harrogate in their last matchup outside of Lincolnshire, Scunthorpe have won each of their last three League Two matchups on their travels and will be looking to cash in on a struggling Southend. On the flip side, having to settle for a lackluster 0-0 stalemate away at Stevenage in what was billed as a real relegation six-pointer, the Essex outfit are enduring a nightmare both on and off the pitch. Opening Saturday’s fixtures already sat seven points adrift at the foot of the table, they have also won just one of their 20 matchups across all formats so far this season. Picking up a 4-1 win when they last faced off against the Shrimpers last season, we’re backing a similar away victory this weekend.

Tip: Scunthorpe win @ 6/5
