With another action-packed midweek schedule on the cards, we have a hectic Tuesday night from across England’s lower leagues. On that note, for those of you looking to stick on a Tuesday acca, we have searched far and wide to find you a handful of helpful tips that are worth keeping an eye out for.
Tuesday 12th January
BST 19:00 Luton Town vs QPR
Starting with Tuesday’s hosts, putting on an eye-catching display in Bedfordshire over the weekend, Luton managed to book their spot in the fourth-round of this year’s FA Cup. Collecting a fellow Championship scalp, the Hatters landed a deserved 1-0 win against Reading on home soil and the mood in their camp should once again be at a high. Despite enduring what appeared to have been just a minor blip over the festive period, the Whites have bounced back in an impressive fashion. Last seen on second-tier duties picking up a 2-1 win against Bristol City on December 29th, Nathan Jones’ men have largely shocked many across the Championship this season. Knowing that three points in midweek could see them break into the top-half of the table, Tuesday’s hosts have hugely impressed with their continued success on home soil. Luton are unbeaten in each of their last five straight matchups at Kenilworth Road, winning four of those appearances. Even more impressive, laying down a real marker as they secured a stunning 3-1 romp against title-chasers Norwich in Bedfordshire last month, the Hatters should be confident of extending on that hometown purple patch on Tuesday night. On the flip side, eventually hit with a 2-0 defeat against West London rivals Fulham and crashing out of the FA Cup over the weekend, QPR find themselves in the midst of a real struggle. Firmly looking over their shoulder at the drop zone and freefalling down the Championship table, the Hoops have failed to win any of their last 10 matchups across all formats, a run that stems back to November 24th.
Tip: Luton Town win @ 5/4
19:00 Harrogate Town vs Carlisle United
Managing to open 2021 with a deserved 2-0 win away at play-off outsiders Walsall on January 2nd, Carlisle have gained a string of plaudits from across League Two this season. Opening up Tuesday’s fixtures still holding a one-point buffer at the top of the table, the Cumbrians are still seen as one of the leading contenders to book an automatic route to England’s third-tier this year. Losing just one of their last seven matchups across all formats and winning five of those appearances, Tuesday’s guests should find the mood in their camp at a real high. Impressing with their recent displays in the final third and with leading marksman Jon Mellish bagging himself 10 League Two strikes so far this season, it should also be noted that Carlisle have won four of their last six contests away from Brunton Park. Smelling a real chance to widen their buffer at the top of the table in midweek, Head Coach Chris Beech also saw his side land an eye-catching 3-0 romp against FA Cup giant-killers Crawley on that run. On the flip side, while the Blues might be enjoying a real battle at the top of the table, Harrogate have gained a reputation for their worrying issues on home soil. Along with getting hit with a 2-1 defeat against Cambridge last time out, Tuesday’s hosts have also lost each of their last four straight matchups in North Yorkshire. Losing those four home fixtures by an aggregate score of 11-2, we’re backing a similar away victory in midweek.
Tip: Carlisle United win & Over 1.5 goals @ 7/5
19:00 Bristol Rovers vs AFC Wimbledon
Starting with Tuesday’s hosts, while Bristol Rovers might have seen their FA Cup adventure come to an end over the weekend, the Pirates did gain a string of plaudits for a plucky performance. Eventually falling to what was an action-packed 3-2 defeat on home soil against Sheffield United, Paul Tisdale’s men have still largely enjoyed an eye-catching festive purple patch. Managing to ease their relegation worries and now looking up the League One table, they were last seen against third-tier opposition claiming an impressive 2-1 victory against Blackpool. With it looking like their 2-0 loss against MK Dons on Boxing Day was just a minor blip, the Rovers have in fact won four of their last five matchups across all formats against League One opponents. Along with claiming back-to-back wins against Blackpool and a 3-0 romp when they hosted Plymouth last month, the former Exeter boss should also be boosted by his side’s most recent meeting against Tuesday’s guests. Turning their attention back to EFL Trophy duties in midweek, the Pirates landed a thumping 4-2 win when they made the trip to Wimbledon last month. On the flip side, last seen getting hit with a 2-1 defeat against Lincoln earlier in the month, the Dons are in the midst of a hugely worrying run of form. Freefalling down the League One table, they have lost each of their last three contests on the spin and have failed to win any of their last six matchups against third-tier opposition, losing five of those appearances.
Tip: Bristol Rovers win @ 11/10
