12th June: Saturday’s Football Accumulator – 9/1

With all eyes on the opening of this summer’s delayed European Championships, we certainly have a stacked weekend of action on our hands. On that note, for those of you looking to stick on a Saturday acca, we have found a handful of helpful tips that are worth keeping an eye out for.

Saturday 12th June

BST 14:00 Wales vs Switzerland

Signing off their preparations with what was a rampant 7-0 win against Liechtenstein on home soil last week, Switzerland open their Group A run on a real high. Picking up three friendly wins on the bounce, including victories against both the USA and Finland, many have tipped Rossocrociati as one of the leading picks to secure a spot in the knockout stage. Since signing off their Nations League run with an eye-catching 3-0 win against Ukraine on home soil seven months ago, Head Coach Vladimir Petković finds his squad enjoying an extended six-match winning run across all formats. More impressive, aside from a close-fought 2-1 loss against Belgium last year, The Reds have lost just one of their last nine matchups, a run that has seen them come past both Germany and Spain intact. While The Swiss might have gained some perfect momentum last week with their thumping final friendly appearance, Wales failed to lay down much of a marker. Blown away in what turned out to be a 3-0 romp against defending world champions France, caretaker boss Robert Page also saw his side put in a toothless display on home soil last time out. Signing off their preparations with a sluggish 0-0 stalemate against Albania in Cardiff, Wales have also shown some recent issues on foreign soil. Making the trip to Baku with just a single win in their previous five away fixtures, including back-to-back defeats against Belgium and France, we’re backing Switzerland to open their adventure with three points this weekend.

Tip: Switzerland win @ 23/20

17:00 Denmark Finland

Opening up their European adventure in Copenhagen in front of home support on Saturday evening, there is no doubt that Denmark enters this summer’s delayed European Championships on a real high. Only gaining a string of plaudits from across the continent, The Reds signed off their preparations with a 2-0 victory against Bosnia-Herzegovina on home soil. Also opening their pair of friendly showdowns with a deserved 1-1 draw against former world champions Germany, they have really found their feet since new boss Kasper Hjulmand took charge last year. With many tipping them as the leading contender to nick second-spot behind Belgium in Group B, the Danish Dynamite certainly laid down a real marker during March’s World Cup qualifiers. Including signing off their run with a thumping 4-0 win against Serbia, Denmark also put eight past Moldova. Mustering nine points from their three qualifying contests, Saturday’s hosts have lost just one of their last 12 matchups across all formats. On the flip side, while The Danes might enter this summer’s tournament on a high, Finland are a nation in the midst of a real nightmare. Suffering a shock 1-0 defeat against Estonia last week on home soil and coming under real scrutiny, The Whites lost each of their three friendly matchups and certainly face a stern test in Copenhagen this weekend.

Tip: Denmark win by 2+ goals @ 13/10

20:00 Sporting Kansas City vs Austin FC

Starting with Saturday’s hosts, coming from behind against Houston on home soil a fortnight ago, Sporting KC have continued on what has been a real purple patch. Gaining plenty of plaudits since opening the new MLS campaign, The Wizards know that victory this weekend would see them leapfrog Seattle to top in the Western Conference. Last seen putting on a second-half romp at Children’s Mercy Park, Peter Vermes’ side landed a deserved 3-2 win against The Dynamos when finishing May and they have now won each of their last three MLS matchups on the spin. More impressive, mustering themselves 12 points from their last five matchups and the mood in their camp at a real high, Kansas should also be boosted by their most recent meeting against Saturday’s guests. Along with bagging themselves over 2.5 goals in each of their last three MLS victories, it should also be noted that Vermes’ squad landed a 2-1 victory when they faced off against Austin. On the flip side, while Sporting KC might be enjoying their own battle at the top of the Western Conference, the same cannot be said for Josh Wolff’s Western Conference strugglers. Really failing to build off of those back-to-back victories against Colorado and Minnesota when opening May, the MLS’ latest franchise have recorded just a single point from their last four straight contests. Suffering that 2-1 defeat when they faced off against Saturday’s hosts on the road last month, we’re backing a similar outcome here.
