With the Premier League season drawing to an end this weekend, we here at Soccer News have searched across Europe for a handful of helpful tips that can boost your Sunday acca:
Sunday 12h May
BST 15:00 Southampton vs Huddersfield
Starting with Sunday’s hosts, after suffering a 3-0 defeat away at West Ham in their penultimate matchup of the season, there is no doubt that Ralph Hasenhüttl will be calling for an immediate response from his side. Securing another campaign in the top-flight with time to spare, the Saints will be glad to make a return to St. Mary’s this weekend. Aside from a 3-1 loss to tile challengers Liverpool last month, Southampton are unbeaten in their other four appearances on the South Coast, a run that has also seen them pick up victories over Tottenham and Wolves. One man who has really started to shine at the back end of the season is the in-form Shane Long. Playing a crucial role in the Saints’ push for top-flight survival, the Irish international has bagged four goals in his last six Premier League outings and has continued to impress on home soil. Long has now recorded three goals in his last three appearances at St. Mary’s and should be confident of extending that tally on Sunday. While Huddersfield may have managed to pick up a 1-1 draw against a struggling Manchester United side, it does not cover what has been a woeful campaign for the Terriers. Looking set to end the year 11 points adrift of Fulham at the foot of the table, Sunday’s visitors are enduring a nine-match winless run, losing eight of those contests. Also losing their last seven matches outside of West Yorkshire and shipping nine goals in their last two matches on the road, we’re backing Long to end his season on a high this weekend.
Tip: Shane Long to score anytime @ 11/8
17:00 Eintracht Frankfurt vs Mainz
After suffering penalties heartbreak and crashing out of the Europa League at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night, Eintracht Frankfurt’s attention will now be turned to securing a top-four finish in the Bundesliga. Despite failing to win any of their last five matches across all competitions, Adi Hutter’s side still find themselves in pole position to secure Champions League football for next season. Arguably Germany’s surprise package this year, the Eagles’ success this year has come down to their continued performances at the Commerzbank-Arena. Frankfurt have lost just one of their last eight matches in front of their own supporters and Hutter will be ecstatic by the stellar campaign of leading goalscorer, Luka Jovic. Finding the net in both legs against Chelsea in their Europa League semi-final, the Serbian international is attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs. Bagging 29 goals across all competitions, the 21-year-old also sits third in the Bundesliga’s goalscoring charts. Given Mainz’s glaring defensive issues at the back end of the season, Jovic should be confident of extending his goalscoring tally. Freefalling out of the top half of the table and shipping three against RB Leipzig last weekend, the visitors have recorded just two wins in their last nine outings. Also losing their last seven matches on the road and conceding two or more goals in six of those defeats, we’re backing Frankfurt’s attacking talisman to once again find the net.
Tip: Luka Jovic to score anytime @ 8/11
17:30 Atletico Madrid vs Sevilla
While Atletico Madrid might end their campaign without a piece of silverware, it has been another successful campaign for Diego Simeone’s side. Holding a six-point buffer over bitter rivals Real and all but securing another second place finish, it has once again been Los Colchoneros’ defensive stability that has caught the eye. Holding the best defensive record in La Liga and conceding just 26 goals in their 36 domestic matchups this year, Sunday’s hosts have also won four of their last five appearances. Along with their continued performances at the back, Simeone will be impressed by his sides fearsome record at the Wanda Metropolitano. Winning their last seven matches in the Spanish capital and recording six clean sheets on that winning run, Los Colchoneros have remarkably lost just a single matchup on home soil across any competition this season. One man to watch on Sunday will be leading goalscorer, Antoine Griezmann. The France international has scored three goals in his last four appearances at the Wanda Metropolitano. While Atletico might be enjoying a bright end to the year, the same cannot be said about Sevilla. Coming off the back of a 3-0 hammering at home to Leganes last weekend, the visitors have lost three of their last four and have continued to struggle on the road. Sevilla have lost seven of their last nine on the road and have failed to find the net in six of those defeats.
