With England’s lower leagues taking center stage this weekend thanks to November’s international break, we are offered a host of noteworthy meetings from up and down the country. On that note, for those of you looking to stick on a Saturday acca, we have found you a handful of helpful tips that could boost your flutter.
Saturday 14th November
BST 15:00 Crewe Alexandra vs Peterborough United
Starting with Saturday’s guests, while a heavily-altered Peterborough might have suffered penalties defeat away at Cambridge while on EFL Trophy duties earlier in the week, the Blues do find themselves enjoying a glittering League One purple patch. Along with managing to extend their FA Cup adventure thanks to a 2-1 win away at Oxford last week, Darren Ferguson’s men find themselves on an eight-match unbeaten run in England’s third-tier, winning seven of those appearances. Already holding a three-point buffer at the top of the table, it is no surprise to many that Peterborough are seen as a leading contender to secure a Championship spot next season. Last seen on League One duties picking up a deserved 2-0 win away at Bristol Rovers earlier in the month, the Blues have also really impressed with their continued performances on the road. Including that victory away at the Memorial Stadium when opening November, Saturday’s guests have won each of their last four away fixtures on the bounce. On the flip side, hit with a dramatic 4-3 defeat against Shrewsbury while on EFL Trophy duties in midweek, the Railwaymen have now lost four of their last five contests across all formats. Also hit with back-to-back 1-0 League One defeats on home soil, it should also be noted that the last time they faced off against Peterborough back in 2016 they were hit with a 3-0 loss.
Tip: Peterborough United win & Under four goals @ 11/8
15:00 Oldham Athletic vs Scunthorpe United
While Oldham might have drastically struggled when opening the 2020/2021 campaign, Harry Kewell’s men do find themselves enjoying what has been a real boost of late and they have continued skyrocketing their way up the League Two standings. Despite managing to pick up just a single point from their opening five fourth-tier contests and many feeling that they could firmly be at the heart of a relegation battle, the Latics were last seen earlier in the week when picking up a thumping 3-1 win away at Bradford while on EFL Trophy duties. Also managing to extend on their own FA Cup adventure thanks to victory away at non-league outfit Hampton & Richmond last weekend, the former Liverpool and Leeds midfielder now finds his squad enjoying a three-match winning run across all competitions. More impressive, also last seen on League Two duties picking up what was a very eye-catching 2-1 win against play-off chasers Cheltenham Town when opening November, Oldham have also won four of their last five appearances. Desperate to widen their buffer over the drop zone this weekend, Kewell’s men should be smelling a golden opportunity on Saturday afternoon. While the hosts might be enjoying a real bounce, the same cannot be said for a struggling Scunthorpe. Hit with a 2-1 defeat against fellow scrappers Mansfield on home soil earlier in the week, they have now remarkably lost each of their last eight matchups across all formats on the bounce.
Tip: Oldham Athletic win @ 1/1
15:00 Wealdstone vs Dover Athletic
Starting with Saturday’s hosts, after backing Wealdstone earlier in the week, it is certainly well worth keeping an eye out for the National League’s high-flyers this weekend. Shocking many across England’s fifth-tier on what has been their maiden campaign, the Blues have only gone from strength to strength since a rocky start to the 2020/2021 campaign. While the Royals might have managed to pick up just a single point from their opening three appearances, Head Coach Dean Brennan now finds the mood in his squad at a red-hot high. Keeping up their recent momentum on their travels in midweek, Wealdstone picked up a shock 1-0 victory away at last year’s play-off outfit Halifax. Opening up this weekend’s fixtures sat just two points adrift of league leaders Torquay, Saturday’s hosts suddenly find themselves enjoying a five-match winning run in the National League. Looking to cause what would be a real upset this season and some in their camp feeling they could mount a charge for the Football League, it should also be noted that Brennan’s side have won each of their last three straight home fixtures in England’s fifth-flight. On the flip side, while Wealdstone might find themselves battling it out at the top of the table, Dover find themselves involved in their own scrap at the opposite end of the standings. Hit with a 1-0 loss against Altrincham in Kent last time out, Saturday’s hosts have lost six of their last seven matchups across all formats and already find themselves sat firmly in the drop zone.
Tip: Wealdstone win @ 19/20
