With the Premier League making its return to action this weekend, we have a stacked schedule from across the footballing globe. So, for those of you looking to stick on a Sunday flutter, we have a handful of helpful tips that are worth keeping an eye out for.
Sunday August 15th
BST 01:00 New York City vs Inter Miami
While New York might have been left heartbroken to have seen their Leagues Cup run come to an end against Mexican outfit Pumas UNAM in midweek, The Blues should be relishing a return to MLS duties on Sunday. Still sat comfortably in pole position to clinch another Final Series spot in the Eastern Conference this season, Head Coach Ronny Deila has seen his side show some glittering performances on home soil. Despite having to settle for back-to-back stalemates against Toronto and Chicago Fire, NYCFC have won each of their last five straight contests at Yankee Stadium. Including a thumping 4-1 romp against Columbus Crew last time out on home soil, New York have scored nine goals in just their last two MLS matchups in front of their own supporters. While Deila’s side should be confident of grabbing maximum points again this weekend, they are up against an Inter Miami side who find themselves enjoying a much-needed boost. Managing to find a route off the foot of the table, Phil Neville has taken some pressure off of his shoulders over the past three weeks. Last seen picking up a shock 2-1 victory against Nashville SC on home soil, Sunday’s guests are unbeaten in each of their last four MLS fixtures. It should be noted, with each of those four contests finishing with both teams finding the net, we’re backing a similar outcome at Yankee Stadium.
Tip: NYCFC win & Both teams to score @ 7/4
14:00 Newcastle vs West Ham
Starting with Sunday’s guests, shocking many across the Premier League last season as they secured a European spot, West Ham have also continued on an eye-catching summer run. Securing their place in the Europa League group stage for later in the year, The Hammers signed off their pre-season preparations with an emphatic 2-0 victory against Italian powerhouses Atalanta on home soil. Storming their way through their seven friendly matchups, a run that also saw them hit Celtic for six in Glasgow, David Moyes’ side should be relishing the return of top-flight action. Watching both last year’s top-scorer Michail Antonio and Saïd Benrahma enjoy their own free-scoring runs over the summer, it should also be noted that they ended last year’s campaign with back-to-back 3-1 and 3-0 victories against West Brom and Southampton. On the flip side, while there might still be a dark cloud hanging over St. James’ Park, The Magpies have enjoyed their own impressive summer run. Including a 3-0 win against Premier League returners Norwich last weekend, they should also be boosted by a stellar record against Sunday’s guests. Landing a 3-2 win when the two sides faced off back in April, they have won four of their last five matchups against The Hammers. In a matchup that famously produces chances at both ends, we’re backing a lively affair this weekend.
Tip: Both teams to score @ 3/4
19:00 Barcelona vs Real Sociedad
While Barcelona might be opening their La Liga campaign this weekend, there is no doubt that all of the headlines have been stolen by Lionel Messi’s departure. Ending his golden tenure at the Nou Camp and making the move to PSG earlier in the week, Head Coach Ronald Koeman will be desperate for his side to turn their attention back to on-field matters. Knowing that they could already be in an uphill battle to reclaim their domestic crown, the Spanish giants would have at least been excited by their final pre-season outing last weekend. Coming up a stacked Juventus side that included the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, the one-time Everton boss saw his squad land an eye-catching 3-0 romp on home soil. Starting a new chapter on Sunday night, Koeman could be calling on new signing Memphis Depay to spearhead their charge. Enjoying what has been his own free-scoring summer run since making the move to Catalonia, the Dutch ace once again found the net against The Old Lady last weekend and has got on the scoresheet in three of his four friendly contests. On the flip side, while Real Sociedad might have signed off last year’s campaign with a real flurry, they know they will face a stern test on the road this week. Ending their preparations with a 3-1 defeat against Osasuna, Imanol Alguacil’s side do hold a worrying record against the former champions. Suffering a 6-1 defeat when the two sides faced off back in January, they have lost each of their last four straight meetings against Sunday’s hosts.
Tip: Memphis Depay to score anytime @ 11/10
