Starting with Wednesday’s hosts, putting in another rampant display over the weekend and picking up a stunning 3-1 win away at a high-flying Derby, the mood in Brentford’s camp couldn’t be any higher. Now sat just three points adrift of climbing into the automatic spots and continuing on what has been a stunning campaign in West London, the Bees have won their last seven Championship matchups on the bounce and have a growing reputation for their displays in the final third. Bagging another trio of strikes at Pride Park last time out, Thomas Frank will undoubtedly be excited by Said Benrahma’s stunning purple patch. Putting in another Man of the Match display over the weekend, the 24-year-old is attracting interest from a string of Premier League sides. Bagging a brace against Derby on Saturday, he has now recorded six goals in just his last three Championship appearances. With that run highlighted by a hat-trick against Wigan earlier in the month, Benrahma should be confident of extending on his tally in midweek. Despite managing to snatch a point off of Nottingham Forest over the weekend, Preston have continued to show their issues during the second half of the campaign. Including a 3-1 hammering at home against Cardiff last month, Wednesday’s guests have landed just a sole Championship victory in their last nine attempts. Slipping out of the play-off spots and with time ticking away, the Whites could be in for another tough test in the capital this week.

Putting in what was another worrying display over the weekend and hit with a 2-0 defeat away at Stoke, Birmingham find themselves in the midst of a growing crisis. Holding just a four-point buffer over the drop zone and still firmly looking over their shoulder, the Blues have lost their last four Championship matchups on the spin and have failed to record a second-tier victory since February 11th, a remarkable 11-match winless run. Partying ways with Pep Clotet last week and now without someone in the dugout at St. Andrew’s, a huge part of Birmingham’s continued issues has come down to some glaring problems in the final third. Drawing another blank at the Bet365 Stadium on the weekend, Wednesday’s hosts have managed to bag just a single strike in any of their previous four consecutive defeats. On the flip side, while the mood in the Midlands might be at a season-low, a struggling Charlton aren’t fairing much better and also find themselves at the heart of a relegation scrap. Hit with a 1-0 defeat at home against Reading on Saturday and failing to build off of their back-to-back victories last month, Lee Bowyer’s side have lost their last three Championship matchups on the bounce and hold just a one-point buffer over the drop zone. Much like Wednesday’s hosts, the Reds also have a growing reputation for their issues in front of goal. Drawing their own blank over the weekend, Charlton have also managed to bag just a single strike in any of their last four appearances.

With their European ban overturned by UEFA earlier in the week and putting in another rampant display against Brighton over the weekend, the mood in Manchester City’s camp should be at a real high. Despite watching Liverpool lift their first Premier League title this summer, the Sky Blues have really bounced back from their shock defeat at St. Mary’s. Picking up back-to-back 5-0 romps against Brighton and Newcastle over the past week, Pep Guardiola will be hugely excited by Raheem Sterling’s continued purple patch. Leaving the South Coast with the match ball on Saturday night, the England international is enjoying a record-breaking campaign at the Etihad. With 17 Premier League goals to his name already this season, the 25-year-old has now recorded seven goals in as many appearances across all competitions. More impressive, bagging four goals in back-to-back top-flight contests, Sterling should be confident of extending on his tally in midweek. While Bournemouth may have put on a stunning comeback against a self-exploding Leicester on Sunday night, the Cherries are still in a real uphill battle to maintain their Premier League status. With their 4-1 victory over the weekend their first win since returning from the break, Howe’s side also hold a worrying record against the now-former champions. Losing each of their previous nine meetings against Wednesday’s hosts, Sterling and Co should be looking to make another statement at the Etihad.
