Chelsea will be looking for an immediate return to form after a disappointing result against everton While Portsmouth will look to continue their good form after a four point haul from two games under Manager Avram Grant.
Many neutrals will say that the first cracks are beginning to show in Chelsea’s armoury, with a few disappointing results in recent weeks. This weekend saw more points dropped with a battling Everton side scraping a 3-3 draw with the heirs to the throne of Premier League champions. Chelsea will no doubt be worried by their recent inability to deal with aerial attacks and this is certainly an area in which teams will look to exploit them. However, Chelsea can take heart in finding the net a full three times at the weekend and the sight of Didier Drogba hitting the net twice will give their fans reason to be optimistic ahead of their home game against relegation threatened Portsmouth
Portsmouth fans will now be wondering where they might be sitting in the league had Avram grant been in charge since the beginning of the season. With four points from two games, Portsmouth are already looking a far better team than their league table position suggests. With David James coming through his first match in several weeks unscathed Pompey will feel rerassured to have the former england number one back between the sticks for what seems likely to be an onslaught on their goal when they travel to Chelsea. With relatively few injury or suspension worries Protsmouth will have a near full squad to choose from, but it will take all the fight of Avram Grant’s men to salvage anything against a top Chelsea team very much in need of three points.
