18th June: Saturday’s Football Accumulator – 6/1

With the MLS taking center stage this weekend, we have another eye-catching schedule of fixtures from across the footballing globe. So, for those of you looking to stick on a Saturday acca, we have found a handful of helpful tips that are worth taking note of.

Saturday June 18th

BST 19:45 Sligo Rovers vs Finn Harps

Starting with Saturday’s hosts, last seen heading into the international break with what was a flat display on the road, Sligo make their return this weekend really seeking some kind of boost. Eventually having to settle for a 1-1 draw away at leading relegation scrappers UC Dublin, the Reds have managed to muster just a single win from their last seven Premier Division matchups. However, desperate to prove that last month’s eye-catching 2-1 victory against Derry City wasn’t just a minor boost, John Russell’s men should at least be boosted by their largely rugged displays on home soil. It should be highlighted, the Rovers are unbeaten in each of their last five contests in Sligo, a run that also saw them snatch points off of runaway leaders Shamrock Rovers. On the flip side, while the Finn Harps might have also been heading into the international break with their own action-packed point against Derry City, they are in the midst of a Premier Division nightmare. Sat 11 points adrift in the relegation play-off spot and with many tipping them as a landslide pick to lose their top-flight status this season, Saturday’s guests have collected just a single point from their last five outings. Likewise, with just a single victory to their name since way back on March 18th, Ollie Horgan’s also hold a downbeat record against Sligo. Suffering back-to-back defeats against their Premier Division rivals, we’re backing a similar home victory here.

Tip: Sligo Rovers win @ 19/20

22:00 LA Galaxy vs Portland Timbers

While LA Galaxy might have shown some extended issues over recent months, it does appear that the MLS giants have found a much-needed boost. Last seen heading into the international break with a thumping display as they stormed their way to a 4-1 victory at home against Austin, the Whites have now clinched back-to-back domestic wins. Likewise, booking their spot in the semi-final of this year’s US Open Cup with a 3-1 romp against bitter local rivals LAFC, Head Coach Greg Vanney finds his side tipped as a leading pick to clinch another Final Series spot. Appearing to have refound their clinical edge in the final third after bagging seven strikes in their back-to-back wins, the Galaxy will be desperate to keep up that momentum here. In fact, now winning five of their last seven domestic contests on home soil, Vanney’s side will be looking to cash in on a Portland squad who are in the midst of a crisis. Last seen signing off May with a 2-1 defeat away at Inter Miami, the Timbers have come under real scrutiny since opening the 2022 campaign. Battling it out at the foot of the Western Conference table, Saturday’s guests have now lost each of their last three MLS showdowns on the bounce. Likewise, along with mustering just a single win from any of their previous nine outings, Giovanni Savarese’s side have gained a reputation for their rather glaring strugglers at the back.

Tip: LA Galaxy win & Over 1.5 goals @ 1/1

Sunday June 19th

00:30 Montreal vs Austin

Starting with the hosts, signing off May and heading into the international break with an action-packed display on home soil, Montreal have really impressed many since opening the 2022 campaign. Only continuing to show a string of improvements, Wilfried Nancy’s men were last seen landing a 4-3 victory at home against Cincinnati and the mood in their camp appears at a real high. In fact, along with opening this weekend’s fixtures sat as high as third in the Eastern Conference, the Impact have won five of their last seven matchups across all formats. Smelling the chance to lay down another marker here, there is no doubt that Montreal will also be boosted by their extended purple patch at the Saputo Stadium. On a run that is highlighted by a 4-1 romp against Orlando on May 7th, it should be highlighted that Nancy’s side have won five of their previous six contests in front of their own supporters. However, while Austin might have also gained plenty of plaudits earlier in the year, the Texas-based outfit are now in the midst of a real struggle. Last seen on MLS duties heading into the international break with a 4-1 drumming at the hands of LA Galaxy, Josh Wolff’s men have managed to win just one of their last five MLS matchups. Likewise, failing to find any momentum last weekend as they were hit with another 4-1 defeat against Mexican outfit Pachuca in a friendly showdown, we’re backing a home win here.

Tip: Montreal win @ 4/5
