While the Premier League season may have come to an end, that doesn’t mean we’re short in footballing action. With a hectic Saturday from across Europe, we here at Soccer News have found a handful of helpful tips that can boost your weekend acca:
Saturday 18th May
BST 14:00 Borussia Mönchengladbach vs Borussia Dortmund
Chasing down a two-point buffer and needing Bayern Munich to slip up against Eintracht Frankfurt if they’re to clinch the Bundesliga title, Lucien Farve will know Saturday’s trip to Borussia-Park is a must win. Coming off the back of a 3-2 win at home to Fortuna Dusseldorf last weekend, it has been Borussia Dortmund’s continued form in the final third which has spearheaded their title charge. The Yellow and Blacks have scored two or more goals in each of their last five appearances and one man to watch on Saturday will be leading goalscorer, Paco Alcacer. The Spanish international has five in his last six Bundesliga outings and sits second in the overall goalscoring charts. BVB will also be boosted by their recent stellar record against Mönchengladbach. Dortmund have won their last six matchups against their hosts this weekend, including a 1-0 win at Borussia Park last season. While Mönchengladbach may find themselves sat in that lucrative fourth and final Champions League spot, Dieter Hecking’s side have very publically struggled at Borussia-Park this year. Remarkably, Saturday’s hosts have failed to win any of their last seven matches on home soil and have picked up just a single home victory in 2019.
Tip: Borussia Dortmund win @ 6/5
17:00 Manchester City vs Watford
Coming off the back of a 4-1 win away at Brighton last weekend and reclaiming their Premier League crown, Pep Guardiola’s side will now be dreaming of securing a triple-winning season. Despite crashing out of the Champions League in the quarter-finals, the Sky Blues have continued to shine domestically. Already lifting the League Cup in their last trip to Wembley, the former Barcelona boss has seen his side win their last 14 top-flight matches and they have continued to shine in the final third. With their title charge being spearheaded by leading goalscorer Sergio Aguero, City have now scored two or more goals in five of their last six domestic matchups away from the Etihad. Along with being boosted by their title-winning performance on the South Coast last weekend, Guardiola’s side also hold a stellar record against their opponents on Saturday. Picking up a 3-1 win when they last faced Watford back in March, City have won their last eight consecutive matches against the Hornets and have scored 19 goals in their last five matchups. As for Watford, after suffering a 4-1 hammering at home to West Ham last weekend, it has been a sluggish end to the year for Javi Garcia’s side. The Hornets have lost their last three matches on the bounce, conceding two or more goals in each of those defeats.
Tip: Over 3 goals @ 5/4
20:00 Lille vs Angers
Starting with Saturday’s hosts, coming off the back of a 1-0 win over Bordeaux last weekend, it has been a very successful campaign for Lille. Enjoying a seven-match unbeaten run and leapfrogging Lyon to secure a second-place finish in Ligue 1, Christophe Galtier’s side have also secured a Champions League return for the year. One man who has really spearheaded Lille’s European charge this season has been leading goalscorer and highly-touted, Nicolas Pepe. Bagging 20 Ligue 1 goals this season and sat only behind Kylian Mbpappe in the overall goalscoring charts, the 23-year-old now has four in his last eight and should be confident of extending his tally this weekend. Suffering a 2-1 loss against PSG last weekend, Angers have had to settle for a bottom-half finish in France’s top-tier and have managed to record just two victories since the middle of February. It is also worth noting that Stéphane Moulin’s side have won just three of their last 16 matches on the road. With Pepe finding the net the last time Angers made the trip to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, we’re backing Lille’s leading goalscorer to enjoy another successful afternoon in the final third.
Tip: Nicolas Pepe to score anytime @ 1/1
