While the Premier League season may have come to an end, that doesn’t mean we’re short of footballing action. With a hectic Sunday from across Europe, we here at Soccer News have found a handful of helpful tips that can boost your weekend acca:
Sunday 19th May
BST 11:00 Real Madrid vs Real Betis
Starting with Sunday’s hosts, after coming off the back of a 3-1 loss away at Real Sociedad last weekend, there is no doubt that Zinedine Zidane will be demanding his side end their season on a high. While Los Blancos will end their campaign without a piece of silverware and a third-place finish in La Liga, fans around the Bernabeu will be most impressed by Real’s performances in the Spanish capital. The Whites have won their last five matches on home soil, scoring two or more goals in each of those victories. One man to watch this weekend will be leading goalscorer, Karim Benzema. Despite Madrid’s issues at the back end of the season, the 31-year-old has continued to shine. Bagging a hat-trick in his last appearance at the Bernabeu, the former France international has 10 in his last nine La Liga appearances. Given Betis’ sluggish end to the season, Benzema and Madrid should be confident of ending their campaign on a high. Sunday’s visitors have won just one of their last six outings and have continued to struggle away from the Estadio Benito Villamarín. The Green and Whites have lost their last four matches on the road, including a 4-0 hammering away at Leganes last month. With Madrid winning their last two matches against Betis and scoring seven goals in those two victories, we’re backing Los Blancos to enjoy another successful afternoon in the final third.
Tip: Real Madrid to score over 2.5 goals @ 10/11
14:00 Empoli vs Torino
Starting with Sunday’s visitors, putting in yet another impressive display in their 3-2 win at home to Sassuolo last weekend, few in Serie A would have expected Torino’s stellar end to the year. Still with their sights firmly set on securing a Europa League return for fans Turin this year, another victory on Sunday could see Walter Mazzarri’s side leapfrog both Roma and AC Milan entering the final round of fixtures. Now winning three of their last four appearances, Torino are enjoying an eight-match unbeaten run in Italy’s top-tier. Even more impressive, the former Watford boss has seen his side lose just one of their last 16 matches, a run that stems all the way back to the 19th of January. One man who has continued to spearhead Torino’s European push has been leading goalscorer, Andrea Belotti. Bagging a brace in last weeks 3-2 victory against Sassuolo, the 25-year-old has 15 Serie A goals this year, including eight in his last 10. While Empoli may have picked up back-to-back victories, Sunday’s hosts still sit one-point adrift of Serie A safety. A huge part of their issues at the end of the season has been their continued defensive issues. Aurelio Andreazzoli’s side have recorded just two clean sheets in their last 12 appearances.
Tip: Andrea Belotti to score anytime @ 1/1
15:00 Celtic vs Hearts
Coming off the back of a 2-0 loss away at Rangers last weekend, Neil Lennon will be calling for a response from his side before they once again meet Hearts in the FA Cup Final later this month. Despite their Old Firm defeat last weekend, Celtic have once again reclaimed their Premiership title and their performances in Glasgow have played a huge part in the Hoops’ securing their 49th league crown. Sunday’s hosts are yet to be beaten at Celtic Park domestically this season, winning 19 of their 21 matches in front of their own supporters. Along with their continued performances on home soil this year, Celtic’s defensive stability has continued to catch the eye. Conceding just 19 goals in their 37 Premiership matches this season and once again holding the best defensive stats in Scotland’s top-flight, Lennon’s side have also conceded just two goals at Celtic Park in their last 13 domestic matches in Glasgow, a run that stems back to the start of December. While the Hoops might be enjoying a bright end to the year, the same cannot be said about a struggling Hearts. Coming off the back of a 2-1 loss away at Aberdeen last time out, Sunday’s visitors are without a win in their last six Premiership matches, losing five of those contests.
Tip: Celtic win to nil @ 6/5
