This is one of those groups where things should be pretty straightforward, or at least that is how everything seems on paper. Mighty Bayern Munich should have no problems finishing first, revived Arsenal are expected to join the Bavarians in the next stage, and Olympiakos are likely to pip Dinamo Zagreb to the Europa League berth. However, considering that these kinds of groups often serve us a fair share of surprises, maybe pre-season predictions might not prove correct. Much will depend on the start the so-called weaker sides make in this year’s competition.
Outright Tips
Market: Group Betting
Tip: Bayern Munich to Win Group F
Odds: 1/3 @ bet365
After winning their fifth Champions League title two years ago, the Bavarians were eliminated by El Clasico rivals in the previous two campaigns so they will be happy to avoid Spanish opposition in the group stage. Bayern made two remarkable signings this summer, with Douglas Costa and Arturo Vidal likely to help this team progress to the next level, so we do not only expect the Allianz Arena outfit to ease off to the first place in Group F, but are also backing Pep Guardiola’s side to mount a serious title challenge in the 2015/2016 season.
Market: Group Qualification
Tip: Arsenal to Qualify from Group F
Odds: 1/6 @ bet365
In spite of some promising performances last season, Arsenal have yet to prove they can match the best sides in Europe, and we, therefore, cannot see them stopping Bayern from finishing top of the group. Nevertheless, the Gunners should have too much quality for the other two sides, even though they will have to be at their best if they want to avoid any surprises against Olympiakos. Arsene Wenger’s charges usually qualify for knockout stages without too many problems, only to fall at the first hurdle and we will not be surprised if the trend continues.
Match Predictions
Dinamo Zagreb v Arsenal
Market: Match Result
Tip: Away win
Odds: 1/2 @ bet365
While their expensively assembled squad rarely have too many problems in domestic championship, Dinamo Zagreb have become famous for underperforming in Europe, and the ongoing fan boycott in home games is certainly not helping. Even if the team now have plenty of attacking potential, the lack of confidence resulting from the shocking Champions League record is likely to prevent the Croatian side from giving their best when facing Arsenal and that is something the Gunners will know how to exploit.
Olympiakos v Bayern Munich
Market: Both Teams to Score
Tip: Yes
Odds: 10/11 @ bet365
Unlike Dinamo Zagreb, Olympiakos have no issues with saving their best performances for Champions League matches, although this is only true for games played at their Stadio Georgios Karaiskaki. Having recorded amazing six successive CL wins at home, the Greek champions can be trusted to make life difficult for Bayern, and with the Bavarians scoring goals for fun, chances are we will see a high-scoring match in Athens, where the visitors might just manage to end Olympiakos’ impressive Champions League record.
