With England’s top-tiers making a return to action this weekend, we are offered a stacked Saturday from up and down the country. On that note, for those of you looking to stick on a Saturday acca, we have found you a handful of helpful tips that are worth keeping an eye out for.
Saturday 21st November
BST 13:00 Gillingham vs Charlton Athletic
Although Charlton might have lost their Championship status among a string of off-field issues over the summer, the Reds appearing to be enjoying a new lease of life since being taken over by new owners. With it no secret that the Londoners have their sights set on securing an immediate second-tier return this season, Lee Bowyer’s side find themselves enjoying what has been nothing short of a stunning purple patch in League One. Last seen on third-tier duties earlier in the month picking up a 3-2 win against fellow play-off hopefuls Fleetwood, they also managed to lay down another clinical marker in the EFL Trophy earlier in the week. Putting another trio of strikes past Leyton Orient on home soil, it should be noted that Charlton find themselves enjoying a six-match League One winning run and they’re yet to taste third-tier defeat since September 27th. Also bagging at least a pair of strikes in their last four league appearances on the bounce, Bowyer’s side will be confident of extending that purple patch this weekend. Last seen getting hit with a penalties defeat against Arsenal’s U21’s in the EFL Trophy earlier in the week, Gillingham still find themselves looking over their shoulder at the drop zone. Collecting just three points from their last six League One contests, they have also lost each of their last three home fixtures on the bounce by a scoreline of 2-0.
Tip: Charlton win @ 6/5
15:00 Aston Villa vs Brighton
Starting with Saturday’s hosts, while Aston Villa might have suffered those back-to-back defeats at the hands of Southampton and Leeds when entering November, Dean Smith’s men made a stunning return to winning ways prior to the international break. With the mood in their camp likely to be at a red-hot high, the former Brentford boss saw his side land a rampant 3-0 win away at Arsenal and they have largely shocked many across the Premier League after just hanging onto their top-flight status over the summer. Marking their return to action with just their goal difference keeping them from breaking into the European spots, it is also well worth keeping an eye out for new arrival Ollie Watkins this weekend. Bursting onto the scene since securing a summer switch from the Bees, the one-time Exeter striker bagged a brace against the Gunners earlier in the month and has already notched eight goals across all formats since making his Premier League move. With his purple patch highlighted by a hat-trick against Liverpool, Villa will be confident of making it back-to-back wins on Saturday. On the flip side, only playing out a 0-0 draw against Burnley last time out, the Seagulls have failed to win any of their last seven outings on the bounce. Also managing to muster just a single point from their last three contests on the road, we’re backing a home victory in the Midlands.
Tip: Aston Villa win @ 23/20
15:00 Bristol City vs Derby County
While Bristol City might have endured a torrid run of form during October and many fearing that the Robins were coming crashing back down to earth, Saturday’s hosts really managed to find their feet heading into November’s international break. Last seen a fortnight ago when picking up an eye-catching 1-0 win away at Cardiff, new boss Dean Holden knows that three points this weekend could see them break into the automatic spots. Now securing back-to-back Championship wins and many feeling that they are a leading contender in the play-off chase, there is no doubt that Bristol City will see their return to action this weekend as a golden chance to extend on their promotion ambitions. Playing host to a Derby side in the midst of an ever-growing crisis, Saturday’s hosts should also be boosted by what is a rampant record against the Rams. Including landing a 3-2 win when they last faced off against the relegation scrappers last season, City have won each of their last three meetings against the Whites. Elsewhere, while the Robins might be battling it out in the top-six, Derby find themselves sat rock-bottom of the table and without a man in the dugout after sacking Philip Coco last week. Hit with a 2-0 defeat against Barnsley when heading into the international break, it should also be noted that this weekend’s guests have failed to win any of their last seven Championship games on the spin.
Tip: Bristol City win @ 11/10
