With the new Championship campaign back underway, teams from across English football second division will be looking to get off to a winning start. With the fourth round of fixtures taking place in mid-week, we here at Soccer News have found a handful of helpful tips that can boost your Wednesday acca.
Wednesday 22nd August
19:45 BST Blackburn vs Reading
While they couldn’t beat Wigan to the League One title last season, Tony Mowbray’s Blackburn side have enjoyed an impressive start to life back in the Championship. Along with booking their spot in the second round of the EFL Cup by hammering Carlisle 5-1 last week, Rovers are yet to lose any matchup at the start of the new season and are also coming off the back of a 1-0 win over Hull. One man to thank for the hosts impressive start is last years League One Player of the Year Bradley Dack. Along with scoring a brace in the Cup, the 24-year-old already has two Championship goals to his name in his opening three games. Coming up against a Reading side who have now lost all three of their fixtures so far, Rovers should fancy their chances of adding more pressure on to former Swansea boss Paul Clement. With Dack now finding the net three times in his last two appearances, Blackburn’s main man should fancy his chances of carrying on his recent record on Wednesday.
Tip: Bradley Dack to score anytime @ 7/4
19:45 Sheffield Wednesday vs Millwall
While Neil Harris’ Millwall side may have fallen three points adrift of the playoff positions last year, The Lions did enjoy a late rise up the table and they appear to have carried on their impressive form. Still unbeaten in the Championship and also booking their spot in the next round of the EFL Cup with a win over Gillingham, although they may have drawn two of their outings, they have played some of the divisions biggest sides. Playing out a 2-2 draw with leading contenders Middlesbrough, The Lions have also picked up three points with a 2-1 win over Frank Lampard’s Derby side and many around The Den believe a surprise playoff position could be on the cards this time around. On Wednesday, Millwall will travel to Hillsborough to face an Owls side who are enduring a difficult start to the new campaign. While they may have seen off lower league Sunderland in the Cup, Wednesday have now failed to win any of their three opening fixtures and coming off the back of a 2-0 loss to Brentford, they have also shipped six goals so far. Given the gulf in recent form between the two sides, we’re backing Millwall to come away with the points here.
Tip: Away win @ 6/4
20:00 Bolton vs Birmingham
Although Bolton may have left it until the last game of last season to secure their Championship status, Phil Parkinson’s side have started the new season brightly and are hoping for a far more stable year this time around. Coming off a 1-0 win over Reading over the weekend, although they may have fell out of the EFL Cup at the hands of a high-flying Leeds outfit, there have been plenty of reasons for optimism around the Macron stadium. Yet to be beaten in their first three Championship outings, one man to watch for the hosts will be winger Yanic Wildschut. The 26-year-old has two goals to his name already. As for the visitors, although former Boro boss Gary Monk may have led Birmingham to safety last season, it has been another sluggish start for The Blues. Drawing their last match with Swansea 0-0, the Midlands side are without a win in their last five matches in all competions and more worrying for Monk, his side have now failed to find the net in their last three games on the bounce.
Tip: Home win @ 21/10
