With an action-packed Tuesday night of footballing action from across England’s footballing tiers, we have found a handful of helpful tips that can boost your midweek acca:
Tuesday 23rd April
BST 19:45 Watford vs Southampton
Starting with Tuesday’s hosts, picking up a 2-1 win away at Huddersfield over the weekend, Watford are still enjoying their brightest campaign in recent memory. Also booking a showdown with Manchester City in the FA Cup Final next month, Javi Garcia’s side still have their sights firmly set on securing Europa League football for Vicarage Road next season. Now losing just one match in front of their own supporters since Boxing Day, another huge part of the Hornets’ form at the back end of the year has come thanks to the ongoing performances of former Barcelona winger, Gerard Deulofeu. Bagging a brace against Huddersfield on Saturday and also scoring twice at Wembley earlier in the month, the Spanish international has recorded a staggering nine goals in his last 10 appearances across all competitions. With Southampton shipping three away at Newcastle over the weekend, Garcia and Deulofeu should be confident of extending their impressive run of form. While the Saints have shown some real improvements since Ralph Hasenhüttl’s arrival, Tuesday’s visitors hold a five-point buffer over the drop zone and will know they’re not safe just yet. A huge part of their issues this season has come down to their form away from St. Mary’s. Southampton have lost three of their last four matches on the road and have conceded two or more goals in each of those defeats.
Tip: Gerard Deulofeu to score anytime @ 12/5
19:45 Tottenham vs Brighton
Although Tottenham might have suffered a 1-0 loss away at the Etihad on Saturday, Mauricio Pochettino’s side did impress for long periods of the game. With a Champions League semi-final on the horizon next month, Spurs now have their sights firmly set on securing another top-four finish. Currently sat in third spot and holding just a one-point buffer over bitter rivals Arsenal, the Lilywhites will be glad to make a return to their new home on Tuesday night. Including picking up a 1-0 win over defending Premier League champions Manchester City in Europe earlier in the month, Pochettino’s men have won their opening three matches at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and even more impressive, they’re yet to concede a single goal in front of their own supporters. While Spurs are in a real battle to secure a top-four finish, Brighton find themselves in their own battle at the other end. Holding just a three-point buffer over slipping into the relegation zone, Chris Hughton’s side have failed to win any of their last six matches across all competitions, losing five of those outings. A huge part of the Seagulls’ struggles this season has come down to their continued issues in the final third. Brighton have now failed to score in any of their previous six encounters and have not found the net in nearly 550 minutes of action.
Tip: Tottenham win to nil @ 20/21
19:45 Doncaster vs Accrington Stanley
Although Doncaster might be coming off the back of a 2-0 loss away at promotion contenders Sunderland last weekend, Tuesday’s hosts have enjoyed a bright end to the season. Holding a three-point buffer in the top six and winning four of their last five appearances, a huge part of the Dons’ push to secure a top-six finish has come down to their recent performances at The Keepmoat Stadium. Picking up a trio of consecutive victories over Plymouth, Bristol Rovers, and Walsall, Doncaster have not lost a League One match in South Yorkshire since the 23rd of October. One man to watch for McCann’s side will be leading goalscorer, John Marquis. Already bagging 19 goals in England’s third-tier this season, the 26-year-old also sits third in the overall goalscoring charts. While the hosts might be enjoying a late push at the end of the campaign, the same cannot be said for a struggling Accrington Stanley side. Holding a two-point buffer from falling into the drop zone, John Coleman’s men are coming off the back of a 3-0 hammering at home to Luton and have lost five of their last seven outings in League One. Also managing to win just one of their nine away matches in 2019, we’re backing a Doncaster victory on Tuesday night.
Tip: Doncaster win @ 8/11
