International week is upon us and teams all over the globe are concentrating their efforts on qualifying for next summer’s World Cup in Russia. We’ve had a trawl through all the fixtures and have come up with an interesting five-fold that could bring a very tidy reward.
Friday 24th March
20:45 CET Italy v Albania
Italy take on Albania in Palermo and will be confident of keeping pace with Spain at the top of Group G. The hosts have won three and drawn one of their four qualifiers so far and face an Albania side that has lost its last two games. The Italy squad is packed with star names and anything other than win for the Azzurri would be a shock.
Tip: Home win @1/4
20:45 CET Croatia v Ukraine
Group I leaders Croatia have been in superb form, their only dropped points coming in a draw against Turkey back in September. Ukraine are only two points behind, in second place, but face a home side on a run of four consecutive wins and looking to make that five.
Tip: Home win 1/2
20:45 CET Republic of Ireland v Wales
Republic of Ireland are yet to taste defeat in qualifying and Wales will have a tough test on their hands at the Aviva Stadium as they search for a first win over the Boys in Green in 25 years. After the high of Euro 2016 Wales have suffered something of a slump with just one win so far and really need to take something from this game. Chris Coleman will be able to call on fit-again Gareth Bale and with the hosts struggling with a number of injuries a point might just suit both sides.
Tip: Draw 2/1
Saturday 25th March
20:45 CET Belgium v Greece
Belgium are one of only three teams to possess a 100% record so far in qualifying and will fancy extending that against Greece. Although the visitors are also doing well, with three wins and a draw, they have had something of a wobble recently. A friendly defeat to Belarus was followed by a home draw with Bosnia-Herzegovina, although the Greeks needed a 95th minute equaliser to secure a point.
Tip: Home win 3/10
20:45 CET Bulgaria v Netherlands
An improving Netherlands side will be expected to take all three points in Bulgaria to continue their impressive start to qualifying. Danny Blind’s team have only suffered one defeat, a narrow 1-0 loss to France, and will be confident of seeing off a side that have already been convincingly beaten by Sweden and France.
Tip: Away win 8/15
