As we reach the climax of the season, this will be one of the most pivotal games we will see. Manchester are absolutely desperate to claim three points to attempt to push Chelsea to the final day of the season, but they come up against an in form Tottenham, searching for their first top four finish in years and having notably scalped the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea in recent weeks.
Alex Ferguson will have been dancing a jig when Tottenham convincingly beat Chelsea but an hour or two after the game his thoughts will have switched to how to beat a team with pace, verve and a tidal wave of confidence. Fortunately for Man United fans, it looks as though their talismanic striker Wayne Rooney is again available for selection, and few would argue that they have looked a shadow of their former selves without him in the side. Owen, Hargreaves, Anderson and Brown all still miss out but there is a possible return for Rio Ferdinand, and his return would be welcomed with open arms.
Tottenham Manager Harry Redknapp can bask in the knowledge that he has already guided his talented but largely untested side to a position that nobody was predicting for them at the beginning of the season. It’s hard to believe that when Harry took over halfway through last season Spurs were facing a relegation battle. A year or so on, and they look like genuine Champions league candidates. Most impressive has been Tottenham’s ability to struggle through games without their big players, and Saturday’s game will be no different with Kranjcar, Lennon and Jonathan Woodgate all missing out through injury.
I think this looks like being an incredibly tight game, but with Man United’s home form and the returning Wayne Rooney, I fancy a narrow Manchester United home win.
