25 September 2011: Transfer Rumours Sunday

Transfer Rumours Sunday is finally here! Let’s kick off the day by looking at the latest transfer rumours in European football.

We start by looking at speculation surrounding Manchester United.

Manchester United Rumours

According to The Sun, Manchester United are targeting 27-year-old Villarreal holding midfielder Bruno Soriano. Soriano is rated at £10 million despite not scoring in his 123 appearances for Villarreal in La Liga.

He is by definition a defensive midfielder, a position that United lack quality or experience in. Bruno would surely be a good fit at Old Trafford, but will Sir Alex splash £10 million for a 27-year-old holding midfielder?

In other news, Manchester United are reportedly targeting Dundee United starlet Scott Allan. Allan has already turned down a new contract offer from Dundee, putting his future with the SPL club in jeopardy.

United have also shown interest in Celtic left-back Emilio Izaguirre, who is thought to be the replacement for Patrice Evra. Izaguirre has become one of the top players in the SPL after transferring to Celtic for £600,000 from Montagua. But United will likely have to fork over £10 million if they want to sign the Honduran defender.

Ross Barkley rounds out the Manchester United transfer speculation for this week. According to GiveMeFootball.com, Sir Alex Ferguson is very keen on signing the Everton midfielder and is reportedly willing to offer Everton two players plus cash for the starlet. Darron Gibson is thought to be one of the two players included in the deal.

Arsenal FC Rumours

Now let’s move on to the rumours and speculation surrounding Arsenal FC.

In the most shocking news of the week, Manchester City are reportedly eyeing Arsenal striker Robin van Persie. According to Emirates 24/7, City are preparing a  £30m bid for the Arsenal skipper. Unfortunately for the Gunners, the move makes a lot of sense at the moment with Van Persie’s £80,000 a week contract running out in 2013.

Wenger just recently praised the Dutchman, “He has grown well into the captain’s role. He is a man who speaks his mind and is doing the job well.”

Reports are suggesting that Arsene Wenger is keen on signing Barcelona youngster Thiago Alcantara. Thiago was reportedly offered to the Gunners in a potential deal for Cesc Fabregas, which was obviously rejected by North London club.

Shortly prior to agreeing to a deal for Cesc Fabregas, Barcelona signed Thiago to a two-year contract extension that ties him to the  Nou Camp until 30 June 2015. The contract also inculdes a buy-out clause of €90 million, which makes a potential deal very unlikely.

Liverpool Rumours

Reports are suggesting that Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish could make a move to sign Japanese international Keisuke Honda in the January transfer window. Honda has drawn interest from clubs throughout Europe following a stellar World Cup in South Africa. Arsene Wenger once referred to Honda as a “genius”.

It would be nice to see Honda play in BPL. He’s too good for Russian Premier league. I doubt CSKA would sell him for cheap though…

Why would Man City Bid on Van Persie??
They Have at least 4 world class strikers.. Aguero, Dzeko, Balotteli, Tevez…

Funny Arsenal are slowly becoming a Man City Farm Team. Look at the players City bought from them in recent years: Kolo, Adebayor, Clichy, Nasri..
