25th August: Sunday’s European Accumulator – 8/1

With all of Europe’s top-tiers now officially back in the swing of things, we here at Soccer News have found a handful of helpful tips from across Europe that can boost your Sunday acca:

Sunday 25th August

BST 16:30 Tottenham vs Newcastle

Starting with Sunday’s hosts, although Tottenham may have been outplayed for large spells at the Etihad last weekend, Spurs managed to snatch a 2-2 draw off of Manchester City and have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the new season. While they may not have found a similar level of form that helped them reach the final of the Champions League back in June, Mauricio Pochettino’s side have spent big over the summer and are dreaming of making a surprise title charge this year. With Harry Kane already opening his Premier League account with a brace against Aston Villa in North London on the opening weekend, Spurs should be confident of extending their unbeaten start when Newcastle make the trip South on Sunday. Suffering a 3-1 hammering away at a returning Norwich last weekend, new boss Steve Bruce has seen his side lose back-to-back appearances and the mood in their camp is at a worrying low. With Tottenham winning each of their last four meetings against the Magpies, we’re backing a comfortable afternoon for Pochettino’s side.

Tip: Tottenham to score over 2.5 goals

18:00 Leganes vs Atletico Madrid

With Barcelona so publically slipping up away at Athletic Bilbao last weekend, Atletico Madrid are dreaming of clinching their first La Liga title in five years. Putting in another defensive masterclass in their opening weekend 1-0 win at home to Getafe, Diego Simeone’s side have continued to build off of an impressive summer. Including landing a stunning 7-3 victory over bitter rivals Real Madrid out in America last month and now enjoying a seven-match winning run across all competitions, fans around the Wanda Metropolitano will also be excited by the arrival of 19-year-old starlet João Félix. Managing to record yet another clean sheet in their victory over Getafe last time out, Sunday’s guests only shipped 28 goals in their 38 La Liga contests and once again held the best defensive record in Spain’s top-tier. As for Leganes, while a bright run during pre-season may have helped improve the mood in Mauricio Pellegrino’s camp, the hosts came crashing back down to earth last weekend. Suffering a 1-0 loss at home to a returning Osasuna, the former Southampton boss has seen his side fail to win any of their last five La Liga matches at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque and have also failed to score a single goal in any of their last four matches on home soil.

Tip: Atletico Madrid win to nil

15:00 Roma vs Genoa

After enjoying a stellar end to last season and continuing to shine over the summer, Roma find the confidence around the Stadio Olimpico on a high. Including picking up victories over Real Madrid and Lille during pre-season, new boss Paulo Fonseca sees his side enjoying a 13-match unbeaten run across all competitions, a run that stems back to the end of March. Also boosted by the news that Eden Dzeko has signed a new deal in Roma, Sunday’s hosts have their sights set on securing a top-four return this season. While Roma may have enjoyed a free-scoring summer, there are some defensive issues that need resolving. I Giallorossi have failed to record a clean sheet in any of their last five matches. Not the only side who have enjoyed a bright summer, Genoa also find the confidence in their camp on a continued rise. While only their goal difference may have helped them extend their Serie A status last year, Sunday’s guests are enjoying a three-match winning run and are unbeaten in their last eight appearances, a run that also saw them pick up a 4-3 victory over French giants Lyon last month. With both sides enjoying a free-scoring summer and the last five meetings between the two sides seeing both teams find the net, we’re backing another lively encounter this weekend.

Tip: Both teams to score
