26th September: Saturday’s European Accumulator – 8/1

With a stacked afternoon of footballing action from across the continent on Saturday, we have searched far and wide to find you all a handful of helpful tips that are worth keeping an eye out for this weekend.

Saturday 26th September

BST 14:00 Torino vs Atalanta

Given extra time off to recover after their Champions League exploits over the summer, Atalanta will be raring to go when they make a much-awaited Serie A return this weekend. Shocking almost everyone across Europe after a record-breaking campaign during the extended 2019/2020 campaign, La Dea managed to land themselves another top-four finish and gained a string of admirers from across Europe. Enjoying their summer pre-season preparations and collecting four wins on the bounce, the Bergamo outfit have only continued to show their remarkable free-scoring run. Watching both Duvan Zapata and Luis Muriel bag 32 Serie A strikes between them last season, Head Coach Gian Piero Gasperini saw his side record a staggering 98 strikes last year, the second-best return attacking return across all of Europe’s top-tiers, only behind Manchester City. Looking to make another statement this time around, it should also be noted that Atalanta lost just one of their final 18 top-flight contests last season, a run that saw them pick up victories over the likes of Napoli, Lazio and Roma. Coming up against a Torino side who have only continued to show some rather glaring issues over the past 12 months, Atalanta will make the trip to the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino confident of opening their campaign with three points on the road. Slumping to a 1-0 loss away at Fiorentina on the opening weekend, some feel that Saturday’s hosts could be set for another relegation scrap this time around. Now failing to win any of their last six Serie A matchups continuing on from last season, we’re backing an away victory this weekend.

Tip: Atalanta win @ 4/6

14:30 Augsburg vs Borussia Dortmund

Starting with Saturday’s guests, watching Bayern Munich lay down the most empathic statement when making their Bundesliga return against Schalke last weekend, Borussia Dortmund’s eye-catching display almost flew under the radar. While they might have been unable to stop their bitter rivals reclaiming their domestic crown over the summer, Lucien Farve’s men opened up the New Year with what was a very impressive 3-0 romp against Champions League hopefuls Borussia Mönchengladbach. Also making their return to competitive action and picking up a 5-0 win against lower-league MSV Duisburg in the DFP Pokal, fans around rural Germany would have been glad to see attacking talisman Erling Haaland open his account. Bursting onto the scene since making the move to the German giants last year, the 20-year-old bagged a brace against Gladbach last weekend and should be relishing a trip to Augsburg on Saturday afternoon. While the Whites might have managed to open the 2020/2021 campaign with a 3-1 victory against Union Berlin, Heiko Herrlich’s men really had a reputation from across the Bundesliga last season for their continued issues on home soil. Signing off the summer with a 2-1 defeat against RB Leipzig at the WWK Arena, Augsburg remarkably failed to win any of their final seven top-flight matchups at home and they also hold a worrying record against BVB. With Dortmund bagging five goals in their back-to-back victories against Saturday’s hosts last season, we’re backing another fruitful afternoon for Farve’s youngsters.

Tip: Borussia Dortmund win by 2+ goals @ 11/10

15:00 Cambridge United vs Tranmere Rovers

While Cambridge might have found themselves scrapping it out in the bottom half of the League Two table before last year’s campaign was brought to an early halt, Saturday’s hosts have shocked many this time around. Keeping the mood in their camp at a real high last weekend, Head Coach Mark Bonner saw his side pick up what was a stunning 5-0 romp away at Morecambe and now find themselves sat top of the table. One of just a pair of fourth-tier sides to pick up back-to-back victories since opening the New Year, the U’s also opened the 2020/2021 campaign with a 3-0 win against Carlisle on the opening weekend. In fact, winning four of their opening five matchups across all formats so far, it should also be noted that Cambridge have conceded just a single goal as we inch closer to October. Adding the likes of former Ireland international Wes Hoolahan to their ranks this summer and watching Paul Mullin already rack up three strikes this season, Bonner’s men should be confident of cashing in on their recent purple patch at the Abbey Stadium. As for the visitors, throwing away their League One status after what was a worrying run earlier in the year, Tranmere are drastically struggling to find their feet back in England’s fourth-tier. Putting in a hugely concerning performance last time out, the Merseyside outfit were blown away thanks to a 3-0 hammering at home against Cheltenham and really are a club in crisis. Yet to record a single victory across any competition since making a return to action, Tranmere should be in for another overwhelming test on their travels.

Tip: Cambridge United win @ 8/5
