UEFA Champions League
The UEFA Champions League is back Tuesday’s fixtures should not disappoint. Some of the Europe’s biggest clubs will be in action, with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, and Inter Milan all taking part in the competition.
Like many others, Sir Alex Ferguson had nothing compliments for the competition.
“The Champions League is the best competition in the world now, better than the World Cup, better than the European Championships, it’s a fantastic tournament.”
Team to Watch: Manchester City
City are coming off a disappointing 1-1 home draw at the hands of Italian side Napoli. Roberto Mancini will be seeking three points, but a draw would not be the end of the world for City.
Will Roberto Mancini re-tighten the shackles at Bayern Munich? Or will he allow City the freedom that he has given them in the English Premier League? I would have to go with the former. Bayern Munich can cause City a lot of problems in an open game. The pace of Ribery, Lahm, and Mueller will surely have an effect on what game-plan Mancini draws up for City.
Nonetheless, Bayern Munich v. Manchester City is the game to watch on Tuesday.
Player to Watch:Dimitar Berbatov
With Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez ruled out due to injury, Dimitar Berbatov will surely play a part in the Champions League. Regarding Berbatov’s role in the Champions League, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said, “Of course he’s got a part to play. He’s one of our squad members and they’ve all got a part to play. There are a lot of games in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Carling Cup. It’s an exhausting season unless you use your squad.”
Despite leading United in goals last season, Dimitar Berbatov has been out of favour for some time at Old Trafford. A good performance against FC Basel may go a long ways to change that.
