Two sides looking to book their spot in the second round of this year’s FA Cup, National League high-flyers Salford City will welcome Shrewsbury to The Peninsula Stadium on Wednesday.

Starting with the hosts, famously backed by The Class of 92, Salford have their sights firmly set on securing their spot in the Football League. Picking up a 1-1 draw with Shrewsbury away at New Meadow earlier in the month, Graham Alexander’s side sit just a point adrift of Leyton Orient at the top of the National League table. Putting four past Aldershot last time out, Salford will be looking for marquee signing Adam Rooney to lead their push. Now sat top of the goalscoring charts, the former Aberdeen forward bagged a hat-trick over the weekend.

As for the visitors, despite a tricky start to the season, last year’s playoff finalists appear to be finding their feet. Picking up a 3-2 win over Rochdale last weekend, Shrewsbury are now unbeaten in their last four. Also now winning their last two matches on the road, it will be their form in the final third most impressing new boss Danny Coyne. Now scoring eight goals on their unbeaten run, they will be hoping top scorer Oliver Norborn can carry on his recent tally. The Shrews striker scored a brace in Saturday’s victory and also scored the visitor’s goal in the reverse fixture.
