As we inch closer to the New Year, we have another stacked schedule from up and down England’s footballing tiers this weekend. On that note, for those of you looking to stick on a Saturday acca, we have found a handful of helpful tips that are worth keeping an eye out for.

Saturday November 27th

BST 15:00 Gillingham vs Portsmouth 

Starting with Saturday’s guests, after backing Portsmouth in our acca last weekend, the south coast outfit should be looking to extend on their recent purple patch here. While there might have been some questions surrounding Danny Cowley’s position after a worrying start to the 2021/22 campaign, the Blues have started to skyrocket their way up the League One table. Eventually missing out on a play-off spot last season, the former Lincoln boss saw his side really lay down a marker in midweek against his one-time employers. Making the trip to the LNER Stadium on Tuesday night, Pompey stormed their way to a 3-0 romp against the Imps and the mood in their camp should be at a real high. With their sights set on trying to force a route back into the top-six, Cowley’s men have in fact won each of their last five straight matchups across all formats. Likewise, along with enjoying a very impressive eight-match unbeaten run, Saturday’s guests have also conceded just a single goal on their five-match winning run. On the flip side, hit with a deserved 2-0 loss against Cheltenham on Tuesday night, Gillingham find themselves in the midst of a real struggle. Opening this weekend’s fixtures holding just a one-point buffer over the drop zone, Steve Evans’ side have lost each of their last three matchups across all formats. Likewise, the hosts have also failed to win any of their previous eight straight fixtures, a run that stems back to October 19th. Given the recent gulf in class, we’re backing an away victory here.

15:00 Maidenhead vs Chesterfield 

Throwing away a two-goal lead late on in midweek and eventually having to settle for a disappointing 2-2 draw at home against Altrincham, there is no doubt that Chesterfield will be seeking an immediate boost here. Clinching a play-off spot last season, the Spireites have their sights firmly set on going one step further this time around. Opening up this weekend’s fixtures still holding a one-point buffer at the top of the National League table, James Rowe’s side have continued to impress many across England’s fifth-tier. In fact, the Derbyshire-based outfit are enjoying an extended 10-match unbeaten run, a run that stems all the way back to the end of September. Looking to lay down another marker on their travels this weekend, it should be noted that Chesterfield also have one attacking talisman enjoying a remarkable free-scoring spell. Once again finding the net against Altrincham in midweek, 24-year-old Kabongo Tshimanga is certainly attracting interest from up the pyramid. The one-time MK Dons starlet has now scored in each of his last seven appearances on the bounce, racking up 10 goals in doing so. With Maidenhead in the midst of a hugely worrying spell, there is no doubt that Tshimanga will be smelling a golden chance here. With their midweek meeting against fellow relegation scrappers Southend getting scrapped due to a positive COVID-19 test in their camp, Saturday’s hosts have lost each of their last three matchups on the spin. Last seen getting hit with a 4-0 drumming against Boreham Wood, the Magpies have remarkably shipped 16 goals in their four-match losing run.

15:00 Yeovil vs Dover 

Starting with Saturday’s hosts, while Yeovil might have found themselves in the midst of a sluggish run of form earlier in the season, the Glovers have really refound their feet of late. Putting in what was a hugely impressive display on Tuesday night, the Somerset-based outfit grabbed a 2-1 win away at title contenders Bromley. Enjoying what has become a much-welcomed purple patch, Darren Sarll’s men have really skyrocketed their way up the National League table. Now with just their goal difference keeping them outside the top-half, Yeovil will undoubtedly be smelling a golden chance on home soil this weekend. With their recent flurry highlighted by a 1-0 win against Dagenham & Redbridge last weekend, Saturday’s hosts have won each of their last four fifth-tier contests on the spin. Likewise, it should also be noted, Sarll’s side have collected 13 points from their last five National League fixtures, the best tally from any side in the division. Knowing that another victory this weekend could move them within touching distance of the play-off spots, a struggling Dover should face a stern test here. Enduring a National League nightmare both on and off the pitch, the Whites are rooted rock-bottom of the table. Failing to pick up a single win since opening the 2021/22 campaign, Andy Hessenthaler’s men have also lost each of their last six matchups across all formats. With Yeovil landing a 3-1 win when the two sides faced off back in January, we’re backing a similar home win here.
