With the festive schedule rolling onto Monday, we have another afternoon of fixtures from up and down England’s footballing tiers this week. On that note, for those of you looking to stick on a Monday acca, we have found you a handful of helpful tips that are worth keeping an eye out for.
Monday 28th December
BST 15:00 Crystal Palace vs Leicester
Starting with Monday’s guests, managing to come from behind twice against away day specialists Manchester United over the weekend, the mood in Leicester’s camp should be at a real high. Continuing to gain a string of plaudits from up and down the Premier League so far this season, Head Coach Brendan Rodgers finds his side tipped as a real contender in the top-four chase. Managing to cruise their way to the knockout stage of this year’s Europa League, the Foxes appear to have shown that their 2-0 loss against Everton earlier in the month was just a minor blip. Making the trip to South London on Monday afternoon looking to extend their stay in the top-four, the former Celtic boss has seen his side lose just one of their last six matchups across all formats. With leading marksman Jamie Vardy already racking up 13 strikes so far this season, Leicester should also be boosted by their most recent meeting against the Eagles. Along with collecting six points off of Crystal Palace last season, the Foxes also managed to secure a 3-0 romp when the two sides last faced off back in July. On the flip side, putting in yet another worrying display over the weekend, Monday’s hosts should be facing a stern test at Selhurst Park. Along with suffering that humiliating 7-0 drumming at the hands of Liverpool last week, Roy Hodgson’s side were blown away thanks to a 3-0 loss against Aston Villa on Saturday. In the midst of a real struggle, we’re backing an away victory for the Champions League chasers.
Tip: Leicester win @ 1/1
15:00 Weymouth vs Torquay United
After backing Torquay for victory on Boxing Day afternoon, there is no doubt that Monday’s guests will be looking to keep up their recent purple patch after an eye-catching display over the weekend. Really laying down another marker to those across the National League, the Gulls romped to a 6-1 victory against relegation scrappers Yeovil and it is no surprise that they are seen as a leading title contender this season. Already holding what is a commanding nine-point buffer at the top of the table and with the mood in their camp at a real high, Gary Johnson’s side have managed to bounce back from that defeat against Dagenham & Redbridge earlier in the month. Also extending on their FA Trophy adventure thanks to a victory against Chesham United last week, Torquay have really impressed with their continued performances on the road. Smelling a real chance to widen their buffer at the top of the table on Monday afternoon, the Gulls are unbeaten in each of their last eight away fixtures across all formats, winning seven of those matchups. More impressive, it should also be noted that the guests have collected 16 points from their last six National League contests away from Plainmoor Ground. On the flip side, while Torquay might be enjoying life at the top of the table, Weymouth find themselves in a completely opposite position. While they might have just about managed to salvage a point off of Eastleigh over the weekend, the Terras are still sat in the drop zone and in the midst of a woeful run. Collecting just a single point from their last six fifth-tier appearances, Brian Stock’s men face another stern test on Monday afternoon.
Tip: Torquay United win & Over 1.5 goals @ 20/21
15:00 Sutton United vs Dover Athletic
From one National League high-flyer to another, there is no doubt that Sutton should be relishing a return to action on Monday afternoon following an extended break. Still holding a pair of games in hand over Torquay and managing to still find themselves sat second in the table despite their extended break, the U’s know they have been handed a real chance on home soil. Last seen earlier in the month when extending on their FA Trophy adventure thanks to a 2-0 victory against St Albans City, the Yellows still have a promotion charge at the top of their agenda. Desperate to prove their defeat against Chesterfield was just a minor blip, Head Coach Matt Gray did see his side enjoy an eye-catching December run. Collecting nine points from their last four National League appearances, Sutton have also largely impressed with their performances on home soil. Along with securing 4-1 and 5-1 wins against Solihull Moors and King’s Lynn Town so far this season, the U’s have lost just one of their last five fifth-tier contests in Surrey. On the flip side, while Sutton might be looking to close the buffer at the top of the table on Monday, Dover only find themselves enduring a real National League nightmare. Last seen over the weekend when getting hit with a deserved 1-0 loss at home against Dagenham & Redbridge on Boxing Day, the Kent-based outfit already find themselves sat rock-bottom of the standings. Losing each of their last five straight matchups across all formats, we’re backing a routine home victory on Monday.
