With what is an action-packed weekend of football from across Europe, Sunday offers us a string of eye-catching meetings. On that note, for those of you looking to stick on a Sunday acca, we have found you a few helpful tips that are worth keeping an eye out for.
Sunday 28th June
BST 16:00 Villarreal vs Valencia
Starting with Sunday’s hosts, picking up an impressive point against Champions League chasers Sevilla earlier in the week, Villarreal have really laid down a marker since returning from the enforced break. Collecting 10 points out of a possible 12 during their June purple patch, the Yellow Submarine have made a string of drastic improvements after a woeful campaign last year. Firing themselves back into pole position to secure a European return, Head Coach Javier Calleja will be most impressed by his side’s most recent displays at the back. Along with leading marksman Gerard Moreno bagging 17 goals across all competitions this season, Villarreal have recorded three clean sheets since returning to action. Now losing just one of their last five La Liga contests on home soil, there is no doubt that Sunday’s hosts should be looking to cash in on what has been their brightest run of the season so far. Putting in another woeful display in midweek and hit with a 1-0 defeat away at relegation scrappers Eibar, Valencia find themselves in the midst of what is a real crisis. Along with crashing out of the Europa League in what was an 8-4 aggregate hammering against Italian outfit Atalanta, the Whites have managed to land just a pair of wins in their last 13 matchups across all competitions. Even more worrying for the Bats, collecting just 12 points on the road so far this season, Valencia hold the fifth-worst away record in La Liga.
Tip: Villarreal win @ 5/4
16:30 Watford vs Southampton
While two individual mistakes from Alex McCarthy may have cost Southampton a 2-0 defeat against Arsenal in midweek, they did create a string of chances and should take plenty of positives away. Marking their return from the enforced break with what was a rampant 3-0 win away at Carrow Road last week, the Saints have continued to gain a string of plaudits for their performances away from St. Mary’s. With leading marksman Danny Ings continuing to shine after making a permanent move from Anfield last summer, Ralph Hasenhüttl’s men have won five of their last seven Premier League matches on the road, a run that has seen them land stunning victories against both top-four chasers Leicester and Chelsea. Watching Ings open his post-lockdown account with a second-half strike in East Anglia last week, Southampton have collected 23 points away from the South Coast this season, the sixth-best away record of any side in the division. With Watford still struggling to find their feet since returning to action and picking up a 2-1 win when they last faced off against the Hornets earlier in the year, the Saints will travel to the capital filled with confidence. Hit with a devastating 1-0 defeat against Burnley on Thursday evening, a contest that was billed as a must-win showdown for Nigel Pearson’s men, the relegation scrappers still hold just a one-point buffer over the bottom-three. With that shock 3-0 win against Liverpool their only victory in their previous 10 appearances across all competitions, Watford could be in for a tricky test this weekend.
Tip: Southampton draw no bet @ 1/1
18:30 Udinese vs Atalanta
Starting with Sunday’s guests, pulling off what was a stunning comeback against title-chasers Lazio in midweek and picking up a dramatic 3-2 win, the mood in Atalanta’s camp couldn’t be any higher. Still firing in the Champions League and sat in pole position to secure another top-four finish, La Dea find themselves in the midst of a glittering seven-match winning run across all competitions and they hold a fearsome reputation for their performances in the final third. Comfortably holding the best-attacking record in Serie A, the Blue and Blacks have now recorded a remarkable 24 goals on their winning run. With that run highlighted by a 7-2 victory over Lecce and a 4-1 romp against Sassuolo, Atalanta also have one leading marksman enjoy a stellar run of form. Including bagging a brace when marking his own return from the enforced break, Duvan Zapata has recorded 14 goals across all competitions so far this season and has continued to shine on Serie A duties. Picking up the match ball against Leece earlier in the year, the Columbian international has now recorded five goals in as many top-flight outings. Hit with a 1-0 defeat against fellow strugglers Torino earlier in the week, Udinese still find themselves looking over their shoulder at the drop zone. Along with showing some rather glaring issues in the final third after bagging just a single Serie A strike in almost 400 minutes of action, this weekend’s hosts have now failed to win any of their last nine matchups across all formats. Picking up what was a stunning 7-1 win when they faced off against Udinese earlier in the season, La Dea should be looking to make another statement this weekend.
