29-30th June: Weekend MLS Accumulator – 14/1

While the major European leagues may have come to an end over the summer, that doesn’t mean we’re short of action from across the footballing globe. On that note, we here at Soccer News have found a handful of helpful tips from America’s top-tier that can boost your acca this weekend.

Saturday 29th June

BST 21:00 Minnesota United vs FC Cincinnati

Starting with Saturday’s hosts, while a worrying run at the start of the month may have had many around Allianz Field starting to panic, Minnesota will be boosted by their ongoing success in this year’s US Open Cup. Picking up back-to-back victories over fellow MLS outfits Houston and Sporting KC over the past fortnight to secure a semi-final showdown against New Mexico, Head Coach Carl Craig will be desperate for his side to build off their current momentum. Still sat in the play-off positions in the Western Conference and bagging seven goals in their last two victories, one man who has continued to spearhead their recent charge has been the red-hot, Carlos Quintero. Scoring another brace in Minnesota’s 3-2 win away at Houston last time out, the 31-year-old has four goals in his last two appearances and should be relishing the chance to face off against a Cincinnati side low on both confidence and form. Suffering a 2-0 loss at home to LA Galaxy in midweek, the MLS’ latest franchise are enduring a five-match losing run in America’s top-tier and their continued defensive issues will be a huge concern for fans in Ohio. Saturday’s visitors have already shipped 35 goals this year, the worst record of any side in either the West or the East.

Tip: Carlos Quintero to score anytime @ 20/21

Sunday 30th June

01:00 DC United vs Toronto FC

Although DC United would have been disappointed to have seen their US Open Cup dreams come to an end at the hands of NYCFC last week, Ben Olsen’s side still sit firmly in the race to clinch the Eastern Conference outright this year. Picking up a 1-0 win at home to a resurgent Orlando in midweek, another victory this weekend could see them leapfrog Philadelphia to top spot. Losing just one of their last six matches across all competitions, a huge part od DC’s title charge has been their continued showings at Audi Field. Sunday’s hosts are unbeaten in their last five matches in British Columbia, a run that stems back to the middle of April. One man to watch this weekend will be former Manchester United striker, Wayne Rooney. Bagging the winner against Orlando last time out, the 33-year-old has recorded nine MLS strikes this year, the fourth-best return of any player. As for the visitors, while Toronto may have managed to pick up a hard-fought victory over Atlanta last time out, it does not cover what has been a worrying run for Greg Vanney’s outfit. Picking up just a soul victory since the 4th of May, a huge part of their continued issues has come down to their form on the road. The Reds have lost three of their last four matches away from BMO Field, including a 3-0 hammering away at Dallas last weekend.

Tip: DC United win @ 11/10

03:00 Seattle Sounders vs Vancouver Whitecaps

Starting with Sunday’s hosts, after putting in another very worrying display in their 2-1 defeat at home against Portland earlier in the week, Seattle have came crashing out of the US Open Cup and find themselves in the midst of a real struggle. Freefalling out of the title chase in the Western Conference and now sat 11 points adrift of league leaders LAFC, the Greens are enduring a four-match losing run across all competitions and are without a win since the middle of May. It will undoubtedly be the Sounders’ continued defensive issues giving Head Coach Brian Schmetzer the biggest headache. Sunday’s hosts have shipped two or more goals in each of their previous four defeats and have recorded just a single clean sheet in Washington since the 7th of April. As for the visitors, while Vancouver would have been disappointed to have only picked up back-to-back 2-2 draws against Dallas and Colorado, the Whitecaps are enjoying a rise up the Western Conference and a victory this weekend would see them climb into the top-seven. Now unbeaten in their last six MLS appearances, the Whites have also begun to show some real improvements in the final third. Scoring a pair of goals in four of their last five, Vancouver have also now found the net eight times in their last four matches on the road.

Tip: Vancouver Whitecaps to score over 1.5 goals @ 11/4
