February is right around the corner, meaning that the January transfer window is set to close in two days time.
Subsequently, transfer window coverage outweighs writing about Arsenal’s 3-2 comeback victory over Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Sunday. Apologies to the Gunners faithful.
Now let’s get started.
Newcastle United
League One outfit Milton Keynes Dons have signed out-of-favour Newcastle United midfielder Alan Smith on loan until the end of the season.
Smith made just two appearances for the Magpies in 2011-12, but he will surely get more chances with Dons, who are hoping to gain promotion this season.
Sunderland
According to Goal.com, New Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill is keen on launching one last attempt to sign Bolton Wanderers striker Kevin Davies in January.
Davies has tallied three goals and two assists in 24 appearances in all competitions for Bolton this season.
There’s no doubt that Davies is in the twilight of his career, but he can surely help 18-year-old striker Connor Wickham develop into a serviceable front-man for the Black Cats.
I would pay too much for Davies, but a few shillings should do the trick.
Paris Saint-Germain
Huge news from the French capital, with L’Equipe reporting that PSG are set to make a move for Lille OSC star Eden Hazard.
Hazard has a €40 million buy-out clause in his contract, which Paris Saint-Germain can obviously afford to pay.
“Of course, the interest from Paris is tempting. Paris Saint-Germain are a great club,” said Hazard, according to Le Parisien.
“And especially with a coach like [Carlo] Ancelotti, that makes you even more keen. Only God know where I will be playing my football in 2012 though.”
Ajax
Highly-rated Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen has admitted that he is not leaving the Eredivisie giants in January.
The Denmark international went on to say that he does not expect to leave Ajax next summer either.
“I will definitely not leave Ajax this month, and I probably won’t move in the summer either. I have an ongoing contract and I feel like I’m in the right place at the moment,” Eriksen told De Telegraaf.
“Of course, I’m flattered that these big clubs are watching me. A transfer has to be a real step forward for me though.”
The likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, AC Milan and Barcelona have all shown interest in Eriksen.
It’s just a matter of time before a “big club” offers Ajax an outrageous transfer fee for the Dane’s services, but who will it be?
That’s all for today. Stay tuned for more transfer window coverage tomorrow.
