2nd January: Saturday’s Football Accumulator – 10/1

As we open the New Year this weekend, we have another stacked weekend of footballing action from across Britain on the cards throughout Saturday afternoon. On that note, for those of you looking to stick on a weekend acca, we have found a handful of helpful tips that are worth keeping an eye out for.

Saturday 2nd January

BST 15:00 Brentford vs Bristol City

Starting with Saturday’s hosts, managing to mount what was a stunning turnaround on home soil in midweek, there is no doubt that the mood in Brentford’s camp should be at a red-hot high. Last seen earlier in the week when facing off against fellow promotion chasers Bournemouth in West London, the Bees came from behind as they landed a late 2-1 win against the Cherries, a result that certainly impressed many across the Championship. Managing to open the New Year by climbing into the automatic spots and now within striking distance of league leaders Norwich, Head Coach Thomas Frank finds his side enjoying a four-match winning run across all formats. Along with picking up thumping victories against the likes of Cardiff, Bournemouth, and Reading over the past fortnight, Brentford have also continued to shock many thanks to their EFL Cup adventure this season. Picking themselves up yet another Premier League scalp after landing a 1-0 win against Newcastle on December 22nd, the Bees have secured themselves a semi-final showdown against top-flight heavyweight Spurs next month. Remarkably unbeaten in the Championship since the end of October and enjoying a real free-scoring run when entering 2021, Frank’s men should be relishing Bristol City’s arrival this weekend. Immediately slumping back to losing ways thanks to a 2-1 defeat against second-tier returners Luton on Boxing Day, the Robins have freefallen away from the play-off spots. Losing four of their last five Championship contests, including three straight defeats on the road, we’re backing a home victory on Saturday afternoon.

Tip: Brentford win & Brentford to score over 1.5 goals @ 11/10

15:00 AFC Wimbledon vs Lincoln City

While Lincoln would have rightfully been worried by those back-to-back defeats against Sunderland and Shrewsbury a fortnight ago, the Imps have managed to bounce back in an eye-catching fashion. Still seen as one of the leading contenders in the League One promotion race, Michael Appleton’s men put in a thumping display last time out on Boxing Day. Certainly laying down a marker on home soil, the former Portsmouth boss saw his side land a very impressive 5-1 romp against Burton at the LNER Stadium. Opening up the New Year holding a three-point buffer at the top of the table, Lincoln have also gained a reputation for their continued success on the road. Last seen outside of Lincolnshire when picking up a 4-0 victory away at Northampton, the Imps have won each of their last three League One away fixtures and they have also lost just a single matchup on their travels since opening the 2020/2021 campaign. More impressive, mustering 20 points from their nine third-tier contests on the road, it should be noted that no other League One outfit has recorded more away points so far this season. Bagging themselves nine goals in their back-to-back victories, Lincoln will make the trip to Surrey this weekend looking to keep up their recent momentum. While Appleton’s side might be battling it out at the top of the table, AFC Wimbledon are in the midst of a woeful run of form. Freefalling down the standings and looking over their shoulder at the drop zone, Saturday’s hosts have managed to pick up just a single point from any of their last five League One appearances.

Tip: Lincoln City win & Over 1.5 goals @ 5/4

15:00 Dagenham & Redbridge vs Dover Athletic

Starting with Saturday’s hosts, although Dagenham & Redbridge were disappointed by their 1-0 loss against play-off outsiders Altrincham last month, Daryl McMahon’s men did enter the New Year in an eye-catching fashion. Now facing back-to-back matchups against Dover after making the trip to Kent on Boxing Day, the Daggers landed a deserved 1-0 victory at the Perrys Crabble Stadium and they have really managed to find a route away from the drop zone. Appearing to have found some much-needed stability when drawing a close to December, the former Macclesfield boss finds his side enjoying a three-match winning run across all formats. Also extending on their FA Trophy thanks to what turned out to be a 5-2 romp against Ebbsfleet on home soil, Dagenham & Redbridge know that three points this weekend could see them move into the top-half of the table. In fact, winning four of their last five matchups and certainly enjoying their brightest run of the season so far, it should also be noted that Saturday’s hosts have lost just one of their last seven matchups on home soil, a run that stems all the way back to October 6th. With the leading relegation scrappers making the trip to the Chigwell Construction Stadium this weekend, there is no doubt that the Daggers will be hugely confident of extending on their recent purple patch. Hit with that 1-0 defeat against Saturday’s opponents on Boxing day, it has been nothing short of a disastrous campaign for Dover this season. Already sat rock-bottom of the National League table, the Whites find themselves in the midst of a five-match losing run and they have just a single victory to their name since opening the 2020/2021 campaign.

Tip: Dagenham & Redbridge win & Under four goals @ 11/8
