Eventually managing to extend on their DFP Pokal adventure earlier in the week after an action-packed affair away at Osnabrück, Freiburg have continued to shock many across Germany so far this season. Making a string of improvements over the summer, Christian Streich’s men now have their sights set on trying to secure a European finish. Opening up this weekend’s fixtures sat as high as third in the table and cementing their spot as a surprise package, their long-standing boss has been quick to praise his side’s eye-catching start. Last seen on Bundesliga duties claiming an impressive 2-0 win away at Wolfsburg, the Reds will find the mood in their camp at a red-hot high. Snatching a point against Champions League outfit RB Leipzig earlier in the month, Freiburg are remarkably unbeaten in each of their first nine Bundesliga matchups since opening the 2021/22 campaign. In fact, Saturday’s hosts are the only top-flight side in Germany who are yet to taste a single defeat. With their stellar start highlighted by a 2-1 win against Borussia Dortmund at the end of August, Streich’s side will be looking to lay down another marker here. On the flip side, last seen getting hit with a thumping 4-1 defeat against RB Leipzig on the road, Greuther Fürth are in the midst of a Bundesliga nightmare. Sat rooted to the top of the table, this weekend’s guests have managed to put just a single point on the board. Starting with Saturday’s hosts, while Boreham Wood would have been left hugely frustrated by that 2-1 loss against Chesterfield last weekend, the Whites made an immediate return to winning ways a few days ago. Claiming a deserved 1-0 victory away at King’s Lynn Town in midweek, the Hertfordshire-based outfit have really impressed so far this season. Despite having to settle for a bottom-half finish last year, Luke Garrard’s men are really battling it out at the top of the table. Sat third in the standings and just two points adrift of league leaders Grimsby, Boreham Wood have won four of their last five matchups across all formats. Also extending on their FA Cup adventure with a 1-0 win against Barnet, they also laid down a real marker with back-to-back 2-0 victories against Torquay and Dagenham & Redbridge earlier in the month. Likewise, it should also be noted that Garrard’s side have lost just one of their last seven National League contests, a run that stems back to September 18th. With a growing reputation for their success on home soil after claiming three consecutive wins at Meadow Park, a downbeat Southend squad should face another stern test here. Losing their Football League status last season, the Blues are in the midst of a nightmare both on and off the pitch. Battling it out in the drop zone, they were last seen getting hit with a 3-0 drumming away at Dagenham & Redbridge. Losing six of their last seven National League outings, we’re backing a home win this weekend.
