While the Champions League might be making it’s return on Tuesday night, that doesn’t mean we’re short of action from across the rest of Europe. On that note, we here at Soccer News have found a handful of helpful tips that can boost your midweek acca:
Tuesday 5th March
BST 18:00 Bordeaux vs Montpellier
Starting with Bordeaux, while Tuesday’s hosts might be struggling with their consistency in the back end of the season and coming off the back of a 1-0 loss against Nantes in their last outing, Éric Bedouet will be excited to return to the Stade Matmut-Atlantique. Les Girondins are unbeaten in their last seven matches on home soil, a run that stems back to the 28th of October. It will undoubtedly be their recent defensive stability in Le Haillan most impressing Bedouet. Conceding just one goal at home in over 400 minutes of action, Bordeaux should be relishing Montpellier’s arrival in midweek. Shipping four at home to Reins in their last outing a fortnight ago, the visitors defensive issues are becoming a huge concern for fans around the Stade de la Mosson. Recording just a single victory since the start of December, Montpellier have now conceded nine goals in just their last two appearances. With Bordeaux losing just one of their last nine matches against Montpellier at the Stade Matmut-Atlantique, we’re backing a similar outcome on Tuesday night.
Tip: Home win @ 6/4
19:45 Cheltenham Town vs Bury
While Bury may have failed to book their spot in the final of this year’s EFL Cup last week, the mood in Ryan Lowe’s camp should be on a season-high. With the chance to leapfrog Lincoln City and briefly occupy top spot in League Two, it has been their form in the final third really catching the eye. Remarkably, only Premier League champions Manchester City have scored more goals across all of England’s footballing tiers and Tuesday’s visitors have now scored 10 goals in their last four league appearances. One man to watch on Tuesday night will be former West Ham and Cardiff striker, Nicky Maynard. Really spearheading Bury’s push for automatic promotion, the visitor’s leading goalscorer has already bagged 17 goals this season. Also bagging a brace when he last faced Cheltenham back in November, the 32-year-old has nine in his last 11 across all competitions and should be confident of extending that tally in midweek. Despite showing some brief improvements at the end of February, Cheltenham appeared to have slipped back to their old ways over the weekend. Shipping four goals away at Manfield on Saturday, only one side outside of the relegation zone hold a worse defensive record than Michael Duff’s side.
Tip: Nicky Maynard to score anytime @ 5/4
19:45 Braintree Town vs Chesterfield
Although a run of eight consecutive draws may have had people questioning Chesterfield’s ability to see off a game earlier in the season, Tuesday’s visitors have begun to show some real signs of improvement. Despite coming off the back of a close fought 1-0 loss to league leaders Wrexham last weekend, John Sheridan’s side have lost just two of their last 10 National League appearances. Now holding a four-point buffer over the drop zone, the former Republic of Ireland international will be most impressed by his side’s performances on the road. Chesterfield’s 1-0 loss at title contenders Wrexham is their only away defeat in 2019, a seven-match run. Heading to an almost already relegated Braintree on Tuesday, the Spireites should be confident of extending their margin over the drop zone. Coming off the back of a 3-0 thumping away at fellow strugglers Dover on Saturday, Danny Searle’s side sit 14 points adrift of safety and have now lost their last three matches on the bounce. Chesterfield should also be boosted by their recent record against Braintree. Picking up a 1-0 win when the two sides met back in August, Tuesday’s visitors also smashed Searle’s side 6-0 in their last trip to the Ironmongery Direct Stadium.
Tip: Away win @ 6/5
