With a hectic Saturday afternoon of action from across England’s lower tiers, we here at Soccer News have found a handful of helpful tips that can boost your weekend acca:
Saturday 7th December
BST 15:00 Blackburn vs Derby
Picking up a 2-1 win away at Stoke last weekend, Blackburn have continued on what has been a stellar resurge heading into December. Now winning their last three matches on the bounce and the mood around Ewood Park continuing to soar, Tony Mowbray’s men have their sights set on mounting what would be a shock play-off charge nearing closer to Christmas. Led by leading marksman and attacking talisman Bradley Dack who has now bagged four goals in his last three Championship outings, the Rovers also have a growing reputation for their continued performances on home soil. Also enjoying a three-match winning run in Lancashire, a run highlighted by a 1-0 win over fellow highflyers Brentford last month, Mowbray’s men have also lost just a pair of their opening 11 Championship matches at Ewood Park. Given Derby’s continued issues adjusting to life under Phillip Cocu, there is no doubt that Blackburn should be confident of extending their winning run this weekend. Throwing away a one-goal lead against QPR last time out, the former PSV boss finds his side sat someway off mounting any kind of play-off charge. Last year’s finalists have now lost each of their last four matches away from Pride Park and have failed to score a single goal on that losing run.
Tip: Blackburn win @ 1/1
15:00 Grimsby vs Swindon
Starting with Saturday’s guests, making a return to winning ways last weekend with a 1-0 win over Manfield last time out after crashing out of the FA Cup last month, few in League Two would have expected Swindon’s stellar run of form entering December. Opening the weekend with a one-point buffer at the top of the table and dreaming of landing a third-tier return next year, the Reds are in the midst of a five-match League Two winning run and the mood around the County Ground remains at the highest it has been in recent memory. One man who has continued to spearhead Swindon’s recent resurge has been their red-hot leading marksman, Eoin Doyle. Sending shockwaves across England’s footballing tiers by already bagging an outstanding 17 domestic strikes this season, the Bradford loanee scored the winner against Mansfield last time out and has also recorded 10 goals in his last seven appearances. While Saturday’s guests might be enjoying a battle at the top of the table, Grimsby find themselves in the midst of a real rut. On a run of form that has seen them fail to win any of their last 10 matches across all competitions, a run that stems back to the 28th of September, it should also be noted that Anthony Limbrick’s men have failed to win any of their last five matches on home soil.
Tip: Swindon win @ 5/4
15:00 Barrow vs Aldershot
Putting in yet another dominant display and picking up a 4-0 win away at Maidenhead last week, Barrow now hold a three-point buffer at the top of the National League and have continued to enjoy what has been an eye-catching run of form. Winning five of their last six matchups and in the midst of an unbeaten run that stems back to the 26th of October, Ian Evatt’s men suddenly find themselves as one of the leading contenders to land a maiden campaign in the Football League come next year. A huge part of Barrow’s continued success heading into December has been their scintillating form in the final third. Putting four past Maidenhead last time out, no side in the fifth-tier holds a better attacking record than Saturday’s hosts and it should be also noted that the Bluebirds have bagged two or more strikes in each of their last four matches on the bounce. With Aldershot still dealing with some issues at the back, there is no doubt that Barrow should be confident of extending their free-scoring run this weekend. Despite picking up back-to-back 2-2 draws against Yeovil and Chesterfield, the guests have failed to win any of their last eight matches on the road, a run highlighted by a 6-1 hammering against Dagenham and Redbridge last month.
Tip: Barrow to score over 1.5 goals @ 8/11
