With the likes of the Championship making its return this weekend, we have another stacked schedule from across the footballing world. So, for those of you out there looking to stick on a Sunday flutter, we have found a handful of helpful tips that are worth keeping an eye out for.
Sunday August 8th
BST 00:30 Columbus Crew vs Atlanta United
For our first Tip of the Day, we turn our attention to the MLS and what could be a lively affair in the early hours of Sunday morning. While Columbus might still find themselves hanging onto their spot in the Final Series places, The Crew have endured what has been a nightmare run. A side that will be desperate to end their blip this weekend, Caleb Porter’s men were last seen on Thursday putting in another worrying display. Showing a host of issues at the back once again, the Ohio-based outfit were hit with a 4-2 defeat against DC United on home soil and they failed to bounce back from another hammering at the hands of New York City. Once again shipping a quartet of goals and conceding over 3.5 goals in back-to-back MLS matchups, Porter’s side now hold just a one-point buffer from dropping out of the top-seven. It should also be noted, Sunday’s hosts have seen five of their last seven matchups finish with both teams finding the net. On the flip side, although Atlanta might have managed to salvage a point last time out, they are a side who are in the midst of an extended crisis. Remarkably, the former MLS champions have failed to win any of their last 12 contests, a run that stems back to May 16th. With three of their last four appearances finish with both teams finding the net, we’re backing a similar outcome here.
Tip: Both teams to score @ 4/5
15:00 Dundalk vs St. Patrick’s Athletic
Starting with Sunday’s hosts, while a hugely frustrating start to their domestic campaign might have almost left them in Premier Division limbo, Dundalk are enjoying what has been an eye-catching purple patch. Still managing to battle it out on their European adventure, the former Irish champions put in what was a shock performance on foreign soil earlier in the week. While The Lilywhites might have been heartbroken to have seen Dutch outfit Vitesse snatch a last-gasp point, Vinny Perth’s men were more than deserving of their action-packed 2-2 draw. Coming past FCI Levadia thanks to a 3-2 aggregate win last week, Dundalk are now enjoying a seven-match unbeaten run across all formats. Also extending on their FAI Cup run after battling past First Division high-flyers Treaty United, this weekend’s hosts have also managed to land back-to-back top-flight victories on home soil. As for Sunday’s guests, while St. Patrick’s might still find themselves as an outside shout in the title chase, they were hit with what could have been a crucial defeat last time out. Eventually hit with a 3-1 loss against defending champions Shamrock Rovers, Alan Mathews’ side have shown some top-flight issues on the road. Including back-to-back losses, they have won just one of their last seven Premier Division away fixtures, a run that stems back to April 23rd. With Dundalk picking up a 2-0 victory when the two sides last faced off, we’re backing a home win here.
Tip: Dundalk win @ 7/5
22:15 Flamengo vs Internacional
Eventually cruising their way to the Copa do Brasil semi-finals earlier in the week in what was a thumping 7-0 aggregate win against ABC earlier in the week, Flamengo have continued on a stunning run of form. Bouncing back after a sluggish start to the 2021 campaign, the defending Serie A champions have skyrocketed their way up the standings. Last seen on top-flight duties picking up a 3-1 victory away at Corinthians, Renato Gaúcho’s men have won each of their last eight straight matchups across all formats, a run that stems back to the start of July. Even more impressive, Sunday’s hosts have scored a staggering 27 goals on their extended winning run. One man who has continued to spearhead Flamengo’s charge on their stellar purple patch has been leading marksman, Bruno Henrique. Given a well-deserved break earlier in the week, the 30-year-old has enjoyed a real free-scoring run and once again got himself on the scoresheet against Corinthians last time out. In fact, including bagging himself a hat-trick against Sao Paulo on July 25th the former Wolfsburg man has now racked up five goals in his last three Serie A outings. With Internacional in the midst of an extended blip, Henrique and co should be looking to lay down another marker here. Dropping out of the top-12 and facing another stern test on the road this weekend, last year’s runners-ups have remarkably managed to win just one of their last 10 straight contests, a run that goes back to June 24th.
