With a hectic Saturday of action from across all of England’s footballing tiers, we here at Soccer News have found a handful of helpful tips to boost your weekend acca:
Saturday 9th March
BST 15:00 Cardiff vs West Ham
While West Ham’s consistency might have been a struggle throughout the season, the Hammers have begun to show some real improvements. Putting in another impressive display in their 2-0 win over a resurgent Newcastle last weekend, Manuel Pellegrini’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City is their only loss in their last five Premier League appearances. With the chance to move within touching distance of climbing into the European positions, Saturday’s visitors should be confident of extending their impressive tally on their trip to the Cardiff City Stadium. Coming off the back of a 2-0 loss against Wolves last time out, the Bluebirds have now lost their last three matches on the bounce and sit two points adrift of safety. Former QPR boss Neil Warnock will be growing more concerned by his sides form at both ends of the pitch. Holding both the second worst attacking and defensive record in the top-flight, Cardiff have conceded 10 goals on their losing run and have scored just a single goal in return. Slumping to a 3-1 loss when the two sides met at the London Stadium back in December, we’re backing a similar result in South Wales on Saturday afternoon.
Tip: Away win @ 23/20
15:00 Southampton vs Tottenham
Although Southampton may have impressed in their 3-2 defeat at Old Trafford last weekend, Saturday’s hosts still find themselves at the heart of a relegation battle. Holding just a two-point buffer from slipping into the bottom three, the Saints 2-0 win over Fulham last month is their only victory in since the middle of January, a six-match run. If there is one area in particular that will be most worrying new boss Ralph Hasenhüttl, it will be Southampton’s defensive issues. Conceding two or more goals in three of their last four outings, the Premier League strugglers have also recorded just a single clean sheet at St. Mary’s since October. With Tottenham booking their spot in the quarterfinals of this year’s Champions League and picking up a 1-0 win over Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund, Mauricio Pochettino will be looking to get back to winning way in the top-flight this weekend. One man who Spurs fans will be looking to carry on his recent goal tally is leading goalscorer Harry Kane. Finding the net against Dortmund in midweek, the England skipper now has 10 in his last 11 appearances across all competitions. Also finding the net in Tottenham’s 3-1 win over Southampton back in December, we’re backing Kane to enjoy another fruitful afternoon on the South Coast.
Tip: Harry Kane to score anytime @ 4/5
12:00 Blackburn vs Preston
Although Preston may have struggled with their consistency in the first half of the season, few would have expected their resurge in 2019. Picking up a 1-1 draw against leading playoff contenders Bristol City last weekend, Alex Neil’s side have managed to climb into the top half of the table. Despite chasing a six-point deficit from pulling off an incredibly surprising top-six charge, the mood in Preston’s camp will be at a season-high. Enjoying a nine-match unbeaten run in the Championship that stems back to New Year’s Day, Saturday’s visitors also picked up a very eye-catching 3-1 win over runaway league leaders Norwich last month. Also picking up a 4-1 win when they faced off against Blackburn back in November, Neil’s side should be confident of picking up another victory at Ewood Park this weekend. Coming off the back of another very worrying display in their 3-2 loss away at relegation contenders Rotherham last time out, Tony Mowbray’s side have now failed to win any of their last six league outings, losing five of those contests. Freefalling out of the top half of the table and losing their last two matches in Lancashire, we’re backing an away victory on Saturday.
Tip: Away win @ 6/4
