Zulte-Waregem opened their Belgian First Division playoff with a 1-1 draw at home to Lokeren, while Gent accounted for Mons on Saturday.

Having finished the regular season four points behind Anderlecht, Zulte-Waregem entered the championship playoff full of confidence.

However, they made a poor start when Jeremy Taravel opened the scoring for Lokeren six minutes before the break.

Lokoren were unable to hold onto their lead as Mbaye Leye equalised from the spot with 10 minutes remaining.

In other results on Saturday, Gent defeated Mons 2-1 courtesy of a Mboyo Ilombe brace, which saw the club move top of playoff II Group A following Lierse’s goalless draw against Kortrijk.

Leuven made light work of Waasland-Beveren in Group A, recording a comfortable 3-1 victory as Mechelen and Sporting Charleroi shared the spoils.

Meanwhile, Beerschot edged Cercle Brugge 1-0 in the pair’s first of five relegation playoff fixtures.
