West Ham United have decided to abandon their pursuit of Angel Gomes, according to TBR. The former Manchester United midfielder is available on a free transfer at the end of the season when his current contract with Lille, and West Ham had been looking to sign him.
The Hammers made an offer to Gomes in January, but the London club have not received a response. West Ham have now decided to back away from a potential deal after learning that Gomes is in talks with other clubs, including London and Premier League rivals Tottenham.
Gomes has been superb for Lille since he joined the French club on a free transfer in 2020 after leaving Man Utd. The England international midfielder has scored 10 goals and given 19 assists in 134 matches in all competitions for the French club so far in his career. Lille are sixth in the Ligue 1 table at the moment with 44 points from 26 matches, just three points behind third-placed AS Monaco.
