Jesper Sorensen is “proud” to have made a perfect start with the Vancouver Whitecaps in MLS but admitted his team were not a “perfect side” yet.

The Whitecaps beat FC Dallas 1-0 on Saturday, thanks to Tristan Blackmon’s second-half goal, extending their winning start, and they sit top of the Western Conference with 12 points.

It is the first time in club history that they have managed such a start to an MLS campaign, while they are just the seventh team in the competition’s history to open a year with four straight wins.

Vancouver also unexpectedly qualified for the Concacaf Champions Cup quarter-finals in midweek, knocking out Mexican side CF Monterrey to boost the good mood around the club in 2025.

“Maybe we have a perfect record, but we’re not a perfect team at all,” Sorensen shrugged.

“Everybody is working their butts off and doing everything they can. We are getting more confident; we’re getting better for each day and that’s something that I’m very happy to see.

“[The 4-0 record] is something I’m very happy for, especially for the players, for everybody around the club, and also for all the fans. I think it’s great to be part of such an exclusive group of teams.

“It’s nice to have these moments and also be a little bit proud as a group that we’re doing something that’s not usual.”

Elsewhere, Los Angeles FC suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Austin FC, consigning them to a third consecutive defeat in all competitions.

LAFC were thrashed 5-2 by the Seattle Sounders last weekend, before suffering a 2-1 defeat to Columbus Crew in the Champions Cup – though they did progress on aggregate.

And, San Diego FC scored their first home goal, with Onni Valakari coming off the bench to write his name into the club’s history to salvage a 1-1 draw with 10-man Columbus Crew at Snapdragon Stadium and extend their unbeaten start.
