Since the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti as the manager, Everton have understandably been linked with several names that would otherwise come as a big surprise. Naturally, several of those are his former charges at Napoli, such as forwards Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne, who are being mentioned by various media outlets.
Mertens, 32, is out of contract at the end of the season and has been linked with Arsenal as well, who are apparently making plans for life without Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. He has reportedly been offered a ‘take it or leave it’ new deal, but he isn’t expected to sign it, not being short of potential suitors as a free agent.
On the other hand, Insigne is tied to the Serie A club until 2022, and as they’re not looking to sell at the moment, it’s fair to assume that the 28-year-old Italy international would cost the Toffees a hefty sum.
However, Ancelotti says he hasn’t even started discussing transfers with anyone at the club, with his mind being fully focused on the three games between now and the FA Cup Merseyside Derby at Anfield on January 5.
