Goalkeeper Roberto Abbondanzieri will miss the coming World Cup qualifier with Argentina, and the next few matches with Getafe in the Spanish Liga.
Abbondanzieri had to come off the pitch after an unfortunate clash with team mate Gabriel Heinze and opponent Haedo during Saturday’s game with Paraguay (1-1).
Argentina medic Homero De Agostino explained on Monday that the keeper injured his right knee and needs two to three weeks to recover. Fortunately, there was no serious damage.
The Argentinians play their next qualifier in Peru on Wednesday, while Abbondanzieri is also likely to miss Getafe’s next two games, versus Real Betis and Espanyol respectively.
As reserve goalkeeper Oscar Ustari is injured as well, Argentina coach Basile selected San Lorenzo’s AgustÃÂn Orion to guard his side’s goal in Wednesday’s game.
