Abdennour joins Valencia; Fulham reject £10m offer for McCormack

Valencia CF have completed the signing of defender Aymen Abdennour from AS Monaco on a five-year deal.

Valencia CF have completed the signing of defender Aymen Abdennour from AS Monaco on a five-year deal.

The Tunisia international, 26, had been linked with a summer move to the English Premier League earlier this summer, with Chelsea and West Ham United having reportedly shown an interest in the player.

However, Abdennour has rejected a move to England’s top-flight in favour of moving to Spain.

“I chose Valencia CF out of all the offers I received, because it is a big club in Spain and Europe,” Abdennour told the club’s official website.

“I had no doubts. I am happy to be here and to be part of an ambitious and serious project, and I would like to thank the technical staff, Lay Hoon and Peter Lim.

“I will give my all to have a good season with my new team-mates. Everyone knows Valencia CF because they have won a lot of trophies. I am delighted to be joining the best league in the world and hope to play well for the team.”

Abdennour made 18 Ligue 1 appearances for Monaco last season.

Evans’ reasons for joining Albion…

New West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans has revealed former Manchester United team-mate Darren Fletcher played a big part in convincing him to move to the West Midlands.

The Northern Ireland international, who joined the Baggies in a deal worth up to £8 million on Saturday, faces competition from the likes of Craig Dawson, Gareth McAuley, James Chester and Jonas Olsson for a place in Tony Pulis’ first-team.

“I spoke to Fletch regularly. I rang him just after he had made the move here from United and he said how much he was enjoying his football,” Evans said.

“When West Brom came in for me, it definitely had an influence on me. I was able to speak to Fletch quite a few times and he assured me he was still enjoying it.”

Evans added: “I think there comes a time in everyone’s career when it is good to have a new challenge and mine has come now.

“I think I’m at a good age where I can make an impact, and I wanted the opportunity to do that.”

Fulham reject £10m offer for McCormack

In other news, Fulham have reportedly rejected a £10 million offer from Sky Bet Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday for forward Ross McCormack, according to Sky Sports.

McCormack, who joined Fulham from Leeds United for £11 million last summer, has attracted interest from Middlesbrough and Norwich City in recent times, but neither club has submitted an official offer for the Scotland international.
