Competition: Scottish Premiership
Market: Aberdeen win
Odds: 3/5 @ 888sport
Making a much-welcomed return to winning ways last weekend, Aberdeen will welcome a struggling St. Mirren to Pittodrie on Friday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Aberdeen might have seen their Europa League adventure come to an end thanks to a 1-0 defeat away at Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon last week, Derek McInnes’ men certainly bounced back in some style in Dingwall. With it appearing that their 3-0 defeat against Motherwell was just a minor blip for the Dons, they put on a real clinic away at Ross County last weekend and another European finish is certainly at the top of their agenda. Still holding at least a pair of games on the teams above them in the table, McInnes’ side have now won five of their last six Premiership appearances and will also be boosted by their most recent meeting against Friday’s guests. Knowing that three points at Pittodrie could see them break into the top-three, it should also be noted that along with landing a 2-0 win when they traveled to St. Mirren back in February, they have lost just a single contest against them since way back in 2011.
As for the visitors, while Aberdeen might have managed to make a much-welcomed return to winning ways last weekend, it has been nothing short of a woeful run of form for St. Mirren. Dealing with a string of off-field issues due to the current climate, Jim Goodwin’s men were hit with a 1-0 loss at home against Kilmarnock at the Simple Digital Arena and have now lost each of their last five Premiership appearances on the spin. Tipped by many to be a clear leading contender to be hit with the drop this season, they also come under real criticism for a 2-1 defeat against top-flight returners Dundee United back on September 19th. Holding what is a hugely concerning record against the European chasers and showing a host of issues entering October, we’re backing a routine home victory at Pittodrie on Friday.
