Abidal meets with de Ligt

According to reports in Spain, Barcelona’s sporting director Eric Abidal recently had dinner with Ajax star Matthijs de Ligt. It’s no secret that the Spanish champions are very interested in the possibility of luring him to the Nou Camp, but as it stands, there is no deal that has yet been put in place. The teenage sensation is at the top of Barca’s wish list, with Abidal supposedly being sent to impress de Ligt and try to convince him to sign.

Barcelona certainly have the resources and the kind of appeal that a young star like de Ligt would enjoy, but the questions surrounding whether or not he’d get any substantial game time are still there. They could always loan him back to Ajax, but it seems like that would be a bit of a pointless exercise.

Barca are of course in the Netherlands right now as they prepare to face PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League.
